englishpatriot 0
Hi, So I'm a beginner and am trying to get my Hawke 3x9 50 AO to zero on my SMK XS38 Magnum .22 air rifle, but I'm finding it really difficult. I put a large cardboard box behind my pellet catcher and target so I can see where the pellets are straying. Starting from 10 yards I kept adjusting the windage until I saw the holes in the cardboard getting closer to the target until I realised the windage would not turn right any further but still was straying to the left. I noticed the scope lens markings start at 15 yards so I thought I must be too close. I moved to 15-16 yards but the same thing happens. How can I get the pellets more to the right if the right-windage is maxed? I hope it's not broken. I can post pictures if needed. Thanks in advance for any help. Quote Link to post
ghillies 209
sounds like the return spring has broke unfortunatly.. other options are remove the scope and mounts and start from scratch..also check the gun screws etc, see if the barrels bent which is unlikly. Quote Link to post
englishpatriot 0
Thanks for your opinion. The barrel is ok as I'm accurate with the open sights and I'm very careful when handling the rifle. I'll give the setup another go, I didn't mention that the scope wasn't centred prior to the zero attempt, but that shouldn't matter, if I'm not mistaken. Can you explain what the return spring is and how I may check if this is the problem? Thanks again. Quote Link to post
englishpatriot 0
I re-mounted the scope to no avail. I read that someone had to give their scope a swift tap to free something inside, does this sound reasonable? This scope is supposedly shock and waterproof, I've only ever used it for a few minutes. Bad move buying the scope from eBay? :/ Here are some pics of the setup, everything look ok? Quote Link to post

Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
click your windage all the way to the right, then count the clicks untill its all way to the left, then put it half way between before you mount it onto your rifle. do the same with the elevation aswell. Quote Link to post
hunter100t 56
Once you have done what skot said, above, swap your mounts over, try front to the back, if to no avail, turn mounts so the dovetail tightening screws are on the other side. If none of this works its either, barrel is out of alighnment from the action, scope grooves are not true, or the scope is broke. sometimes scopes internals stick, and re-centreing like skot suggested can work. good luck. atb phil some times its the mounts that are the problem, which is why i suggested turning them.
