i dont usually post on these topics as im sort of in all camps lol,im not interested in an argument ,my views are from all sides as i work my dogs all season show and race in the summer and run a show. firstly it is a show no judge can tell if a dog is working in a ring it may have marks on it but these prove nothing other than the dog has had a cut. to use a sayin from a friend of mine "a show should be judged on conformation not mutilation" working trails were the only way to prove working ability and sorry to say they wont be back, from a show organizer point of view, you cant have a show without the showing so you need all sides of the coin to walk in to the ring and support a few classes and not just stand outside all the time. racing has taken over as the hot topic lately but it will take a few shows to sort out these new ways.its the same amount of dogs so it can be sorted, its only the start of may yet and it would be a long summer without them. working terrier\lurcher shows are nt what they used to be for obvious reasons but its still a place for men\lads with working dogs to take there young pups along or old retired dogs for a bit of a loo

Threads like this make me laugh. A bunch off clowns yous lads. Trying to talk sense when you don't know, because your not into dogs that long ! Then theres others I've seen with a 'hard terrier' on a lead, hadn't got as much as a nip on it. Seasoned dogs, tried and tested but.

Dear mystic Meg

since you have an insight of how long everyone has kept dogs on here and how well they are all doing (or not doing) ,,any chance you could gaze into your magic crystal ball and give me the lottery numbers for this week!

Reading some peoples comments on here..they make me laugh ,but they prob arent in dogs long enough to know any better

many people seem to think show ponies and racing dogs cant make the grade as working dogs

well....stand corrected , i felt i need to stand up for the tescos bag chasing lurcher generation!

Im not a fan of putting pics of lurcher work on the net !

nice pic looks a good day out with dogs that look in good shape but stand corrected i wont there are some people who work and show there dogs these are the people that should be attending working shows but tell me this maverick are there or are there not a growing number of people who keep there dogs with the aim of attending spring\summer shows and that there dogs are not earning there keep in autumn\winter ?

Many people i would suspect dont do any thing with there dogs but give them a spring bath and shake off the winter cobwebs,

I know a few that have 30 plus dogs and not a decent one amongst them.

they are also the kind of people who breed countless litters of "working" bred puppies that will simly will not work out as there breeding or abilities have not been studied .they put bitch over dog and hope for the best...i really think people need to base there planned future mating on the capabilties of both parents rather than what they look like...

i dont breed often but i have not been dissapointed in a litter yet!

my latest include 2 racing elite winners and there litter mate bess can be seen working on the lurchers ireland dvd ...

cant stress enough think before you breed, enjoy ur shows but think of the reason you have the dog, if its only for racing...buy a greyhound!

you ll find that the only people who study and plan a proper mating be it terrier lurcher gundog etc are the people with work in mind as that the whole point of breeding is to maintain or even try to improve the working abilitys of the dogs the so called working puppy breeders breed to make themselves feel important with the side bet of some handy money these same people take there summer racing very serious as a fifty p rosette seems to make them feel important and they then kid themselves there the saviors or there breed working wise aswell as to be honest this type would know one end of a dog from the other imo
