Plank 8
I have some grass paddocks that attract woodies at certain times of year. They are after the clover. I would like to know if there are legal and effective wood pigeon traps. Would a ladder trap work? Is it legal to bait for woodies? If so would frozen maize work? Thanks. Quote Link to post

Plank 8
pm John B from fourteen acre he will see you right on making yourself a trap for woodies and yes bait it with bread, corn or any thing like that I have his "Trap making step by step" which gives a design for a pigeon trap that is for feral pigeons and described as only capable of catching wood pigeons occasionally. I mentioned a ladder trap specifically as an old boy I was talking to said he used to catch woodies in a similar style trap. I was a bit surprised at this as I had perviously heard that they were very cautious about entering cages. While they certainly know what corn is from nearby fields I am cautious about scattering it on my sward incase it starts to grow. Quote Link to post

john b 38
If you can get them to feed regularly at the same spot Plank then a large trap may work for woodies. The reason they work so well for feals is that they tend to be resident and feed in a relatively small area so you can build up quite a large and regular following before you make the trap live. Woodies in my experience tend to move round more so you'd have to hit them a bit quicker which may mean there aren't as many regular feeders visiting. Also ferals are more at home with artificial structures than a woody would be and so less timid from the start. Quote Link to post
