pointer 543
Thanks ginger shooter. Cant wait to get her back out for the new season hopefuly going to be quicker than i expected. I'm hoping we have more rabbits running around here next season.I need to find more than last season as you need numbers on the ground if your wanting to be out five, six times a week.........and catching not just flying a bird about the countryside lol. craigynewall 28
@pointer i agree mate well iv passed 1 of my flight spots last week and it was covered round the hedges with rabbit so good signs i just hope the lads with the dogs dont ruin our season before it starts. Hope the squirrels breed out nicely in my areaa too my fhh just took 5 out in her 1st season just gone the squirrel flights are unreal i think. Her favourite is the rabbit but she has also caught a few female pheasant and a huge stinkin rat aswel so dont think her 1st 1 went too bad definatly hoping for a better season this year and hope theirs abit more for her to get at. pointer 543
Sounds like you did a bit better than me mate, mine got bit by a squirrel due to landing on a snow covered bankside and not being able to bring it under control like she normally would have. She had a few good flights on squirrel and it is good sport. Mine caught a pheasant towards the end of the season and caught but couldn't hold another soon after and had to tracked down with telemetry after chasing it back across another field and over a road. She got a few rabbits, moorhens and a pigeon which she must have dropped onto as well.I made a few mistakes but I was happy enough in the end.A lack of rabbits did hinder us and she wouldn't work with the pointer but I persevered and I think after chasing a few pheasants which he had pointed and flushed she started to realise that he can be worth putting up with.I felt everything was just starting to come together when the season was coming to an end so its something to build on next time round.I only used her for less than half the season so I'm looking forward to a full one starting as soon as possible to take advantage of bigger numbers of quarry which aren't as educated. There are rabbits around here now and I've been told the dales have them running about again in number but mixy will come along again and in my area the summer hunters will hammer everything, rabbits, young hares etc. Quote Link to post
