WoodsmanJim 160
Well, seeing as I currently have no scope that will hold a zero and can't afford a new one anytime soon I thought I'd get on with a few other jobs on my gun that I've been mening to do for a while. The first of which was camo it up! After thinking about this for a while and reading a few threads I came to the conclusion that I agreed with those that said "why bother going to all the trouble and expense of camo'ing up our bodies, face, hands etc.. then wandering round with a big piece of wood and metal that doesn't match anything! As mentioned funds are tight due to a newborn in the household (good job he's so darn cute!) so I had to do this cheaply. So I bought a roll of this from Contact Left: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAMO-FABRIC-INSULATING-TAPE-SHOOTING-HUNTING-PAINTBALL-/110746246859?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item19c8fd9ecb and then applied it to my gun. It sticks well and feels great to the touch, I'm also looking forward to the slight insulating properties it'll have on the cocking lever as my finger tips are often frozen by it! I know it'll not be to everyones taste, but this is an old rifle that's had tons of abuse, the stock was hardly show winning so I'm really not bothered about it. It's a tool to do a job and this might help it do it's job a bit better. If I don't like it it in the field tests it should all come off without an residue and if I ever did take it all off I'd want to sand down and refinish the stock anyway as it is tatty. Well anyway, here it is: I was careful to shape and stretch it fit all the curves and ins and outs of the stock. I also added a neoprene barrel cover that's a lot greener than it looks in the pics. Another cheapo eBlag purchase that will serve well enough. Any though or suggestions, critiques or other ideas welcomed. Jim Quote Link to post
bwfc 164
Its a nice side lever springer that would have been begging for restoration!.i suppose thats one for the future, the camo job looks like it should serve purpose. Edited April 30, 2013 by bwfc Quote Link to post
Craig Fosse 286
Looks quite good mate, if its like the tape that I used in the armed forces called sniper tape, watch when it gets wet because the stickiness comes through and it gets all sticky, best thing to do is wet it on the stock and see if that happens Looks pretty good tho! Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
heres my hw97k. with jack pyke stealth tape, clings to itself, on the barrel underlever and stock at the back.. and under the net wasnt done but the net seemed to do its job.. it was an absolute blag to load tho i ended up taking the net off and giving it up as a bad job hahaaha. andyfr1968 772
If it works, it works. Like you say, it's a tool for a job. I'm a big fan of the Diana side levers and that's a tool that'll see you well. Quote Link to post
silentshot1 206
Nice job mate, not my taste, but looks like it's done well. Regarding a cheap as chips but reasonable scope, have a look at Richter Optiks 3-9x40. I paid £50.00 in a notoriously expensive gun shop, but found this for £35.00. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Richter-Optik-3-9x40-Rifle-Scope-Includes-Flip-Up-Lens-Covers-1-Tube-/120841338932 I have one on my HW77 and would happily pay £50.00 again. gurtwurz 792
Nice job mate! I quite like a camo stock meself... As to cheap but serviceable scopes, its well worth having a squint on the js. Ramsbottom website, their own range of scopes are all very reasonable, and punch well above their weight performance wise. Our own lighthunter, chas, has used one to great effect both for hunting and hft for some time now and sings its praises. I had one on my pro sport for a good while and found it excellent value for money. Cheers, wurz Quote Link to post

deanothehunter 34
Looks great, I am a big fan of gun cammo and I did exactly that with an old hw springer which was my first rifle, just be aware you may need to go to the local petrol station and buy a gallon of petrol as its the only stuff that shifts that terrible sticky gunk when it comes time to peel it all off again........ bwfc 164
Hunting isnt a fashion show as you say,but theres a certain satisfaction in restoring a rifle.I think its the job satisfaction you get from bringing the grain out on the stock, especially when you didnt know it was there in the first place.
