IN SLIPS 134
From what i saw with my own eyes and not off videos would have to be snowy 2002, showed she was a proper game bitch with a big heart !!! Red and Maize more my type of dog though more up and at them. Red made them look easy in 2000 with this style, killing them very quickly. Quote Link to post

Guest vin
This old fella who my mate had up until he passed away a couple of years ago was no plodder.. he liked lamping bunnies and ferreting just as much as his days on the Fens... and was very good on the small fields where you wouldnt have thought a fen dog would be. I'm told he was a winner ? or in the final...Im not sure. he was a fine animal. Edited April 30, 2013 by vin Quote Link to post
neems 2,406
How do you rate the dogs preban compared to after the ban winners?different comp now a days pre ban the dogs earned the right to run not going through on byes and all that carry on best dog from the clubs ran in the comp not like now if you got the £££ your in Yea but unless these dogmen in these clubs gave up over night, there must still be good dogs out there and the guys just aren't interested in the comp. no matter if you buy your way in, the best dog should win. Which brings me to the point I've always made. Even in the forleys height, there were good dogs and dogmen weren't interested in it so its never really been a completion that if you won it you had the best dog in the land. For a hell of a lot of guys up here, the fens are just not all that.... That's like saying a Muhammad Ali was good, but not everyone who trains in boxing likes to compete so you can't say he was the best. Quote Link to post
BOLIO1 1,078
Blondie for me but dont forget her dam Dancer, who beat Foxy to win it a week after also winning the doubles. An unique achievement! 1 Quote Link to post
BOLIO1 1,078
Vin its hard to make out the writing on my phone but that looks like the ped for Noonies Beauty and Beast. Beauty was sold to MQ and was a runner up to her aunt Roxy....sister to Drax. Quote Link to post
BOLIO1 1,078
Closer look reveals its actually Reds pedigree, the only dog to make it into the millenium 6 when Blondie won it. Beauty and Beast were out of Noonies Peggy and Drax. Quote Link to post
low plains drifter 10,736
I once saw beast run and retrieve a fen hare at eight year old, cant remember the names of the cream coloured pups out of him but they were good looking strong animals, they were on a video where they were also running the whites on the heather, good classy dog beast, dont remember ever seeing him run in any organised comps though Quote Link to post

That's like saying a Muhammad Ali was good, but not everyone who trains in boxing likes to compete so you can't say he was the best. Not really mate, boxing is a competitive sport, hare coursing isn't. A boxing ring is the same the world over, running land isn't. There will be bits of land guys hunt where there dogs are shit hot on it, know exactly which way the hares gonna head etc etc, they could beat any dog on it. They might do shit on the fens, does that mean a dog that's good on the fens is better than this dog? As I say, the fens aren't the be all for everyone and don't get filled into thinking that a good fen dog is the best dog in the land cos it isn't. The best dog for THAT particular land yes but not the country like we are led to believe. Quote Link to post
stubblebasher 150
Funny how non competative men crawl out of the woodwork looking for matches when they get a good un ! Some dogs are shit hot in paddocks or on fenland Quote Link to post

Beauty and Beast were out of Noonies Peggy and Drax. That sounds about right Bolio.. oold Red was his nickname in the yard. My mate offered to line my bitch with the old boy for free...and I didnt take him up on the offer... big mistake. Did you see him run ? he was no plodder, thats a cert. Quote Link to post
inan 841
It's a funny old thing, but why do some people assume that 'fen dogs' are plodders?.... Lack of knowledge on the subject? Quote Link to post

Lack of knowledge on the subject? cos it annoys you perhaps I think it best describe a dog who's running style is to get towed around by a hare 1 Quote Link to post

Yes Vin I saw him run and he killed his hares very quickly that day. But I suggest it was a littermate that your old boy had as Gary kept Red all his life. And no, lol, Red was no plodder Quote Link to post
