zini 1,939
Hi lads, Id just like to say a big thanks to Davy for taking the time yesterday to lower the power on my 98. After running in at 11.3FPE I decided I wanted it lowering as it is my main HFT rifle to between 8 and 10 FPE. Davy stripped and removed a coil for me as shown and taught by John at SFS and degreased and regreased it. Its now shooting brilliantly with a chronoed total deviation over 15 shots of 0.2 of a FPE at 9.4 FPE. Now with Falcon AP pellets it does this pretty easily. Mauders shot it last night too and commented that it recoils even less than his S2 tuned 97. Happy with that. Si. Edited April 30, 2013 by zini 2 Quote Link to post

After speaking to quite a few winners and champions at HFT this past 3 months it turns out that around 8 FPE to 10 FPE is the best power for accuracy using lead pellets. With more especially with a springer the recoil effects accuracy which a hunter would not really feel as they work on 2.5 cm kill zones or grouping inside a 2p where a HFT champion works to tolerances of less than 1.5 cm and needs the best from their rifle. All my springers are now either in 9s or low to middle 10s now less my HW35 which is about 11.3. I can tell you what though they all shoot really sweet and better than when in the 11s. Funny thing though is when you drop the power on a springer it can effect the barrel liking the old best pellet. My Spectre loved H and N at 11.6 which is what it bedded in to at last but now at 10.7 it hates them and loves AA Fields. Si. Quote Link to post

Same here, when I downed the 80's power it went from accupells to being mentally accurate with air arms. Now I've changed the barrel (of which, more in another post when I get a chance to sit down long enough to write it) it likes jsb's best, although air arms and ftt's are a close second. Good grouping by the way si, nice one mate. Cheers, wurz 1 Quote Link to post

Mawders 595
The 98 si has really is a pleasure to shoot, its effortless cocking thanks to the polished internals and tune from tony at SFS and the recoil is near to nothing! Incredible really! My 97KT in stage 2 tune running at about 10.5ft/lb is more snappier than the 98. Still my 97 is a dream to use. 1 Quote Link to post

Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
well shot Si mate nice group that is. Si for hft what would you consider a stage 2 97kt or a stage 1 98 ?? both in 177 as for this question, i reckon whichever suits you best in the shoulder would be the best bet, regardless of its tune?? me personally id prefer the 97kt over a 98 Quote Link to post

I ordered the 98 but got a BSA Meteor or Webley Vulcan spring fitted by Tony (cant remember which he said). Its just silk at 9.4 FPE to cock and the recoil is silly nothing. Its so accurate now i cant believe it. Si. Edited April 30, 2013 by zini 1 Quote Link to post
porkybella 284
I think thats the way forward then si cause although the 97kt is a beautiful i prefer a sporter stock dont ask me why i bought the thumbhole version probly cause i loved the nickel action but yeah deffo im going for the 98. So whens the next thl meet would like ago of the springer challenge Quote Link to post
