FERRETBOY 680
my dads lurcher has started to get really stiff after an hours walk or so.it seems to be on her front right leg ,the same leg we believe she broke her toe on when she was about two and she is now only four.im just wondering would this be the cause of her stiffening up as we let the toe heel on itself.im also thinking what supplements are best i could give her, for example oils and would this help her alot.also im thinking of giving her electrolites to help her recover quicker after a nights lamping do you think this is worth doing and same again which are the best?cheers good hunting rew
Simoman 110
If she only four and you haven't had it diagnoised I'd be inclined to pop in the vets, if its bnot arthritis you could be running the dog with an injury Electrolytes won't help arthritis, its good practice to include fish oil in the diet anyway. AKA-BRINDLE 879
Have an old dog here who damaged his elbow joint many years chaseing muntjak...this came back to haunt us as arthritis tried everything oils ,herbal remedys ,magnetic collars the whole bloody lot! only thing that makes any significant differance is a mixture of Glucosamine and Chondroitin the vets do a product called Cosequin DS but will charge you a fortune! my wife gets it imported from the U.S for under half the price!...highly recomend this! Yes, my mum got her arthritis under control through diet. Cut out red meats and cereals in the dog's diet: stick to rabbit, chicken and fish and green veg: no tomatoes either: very acidic. My old dog does a lot better at 12 years if she's kept right off red meat i.e. beef of all sorts: heart, muscle meat etc.
redmoor 0
One of the best products on the market for arthritis/stiff dogs is Glycoflex..this is a mixture of Green Lipped Muscle, Chondroitin, Glucosamine, Vitamin C and Manganese..our Vizsla who is 7y old now has gubbed hips..she has displastic elbows and DJD..she is currently only on Glycoflex and manages fine. A Bioflow magnetic collar is something else that can really help stiff dogs..she also wears one of these 24/7. Bioflow collars are on a 90 day money back guarantee if they dont work. Dont buy Glycoflex from the Vet, try one of the on-line pet pharamacies like www.bestbetpharmacy.co.uk or you can buy Green Lipped Muscle capsules alongwith Chondroitin, Glucosamine and give them as separate tablets from the likes of Holland and Barrett. bill88 6
I have suffered with arthritus in my shoulder since my late twentie's,after a motorcycle accident.I had been taking various nsaid's and pain killer's along with arthritis drug's.A work mate put me onto glucosamine and condroitin.Being a bit sceptical ,i asked what the cost would be " i'll give you a months supply,if it don't help dont pay" that was four years ago.I know i'm not cured, but i have much more mobility in the joint ,and much less pain. harddigging 42
ive heard cider vinegar works a treat and its not all that expensive either
skycat 6,173
All these different remedies! I was taking the glucosamine and chondroitin myself, then ran out and started drinking cider vinegar: still no pain! There was a book all about cider vinegar came out years ago: the author reckoned it was virtually a cure all (take that with a pinch of salt) but apparently it does cure all sorts of things: and helps you lose weight too if you need to! Drink a tablespoon full in a glass of water before every meal: I'm going to try my old fat dog on it!
