Anyway brought myself a hutch on ebay and a ferret box, just need some advice now on weather to get male or female? All i wanna do is go out every other week for a day and catch afew bunny's and get away from it all

PS when i say 'mate' he was a builder that was doing some work on my house and see 'earth dog running dog' on my table and then we got on to 'ferrets' and he said he'd take me out whenever he goes, he showed me the ropes but be good to get some advice from you guys aswell

As the season is now over, lots of babies, and pregnant Does I usually start late September October, depends how thick the cover is.

If you keep an eye on this site, there should be a few kits coming on; looking for good homes, its up to you what you prefer to work,

My preference is to work two Jills and also keep a vasectomed Hob too bring them out of Season, but he also works as well.

Do your research and see what sex of ferret would suit you best a lot of guys prefer a jill to work away and slip in and out the nets . and other guys prefer a stronger hob the choice is yours , the hob will come and go out of season no problem as would a jill but you also have the choice of the jill jab ,implant, snipped hob or breeding her . But ferrets are social animal and a nice wee group and to work most sized burrows i would go for a snipped hob and two jills

theres a chance of a jill dieing when she's not brought out of season, but theres ways around that. (jill jab from the vet, or vasectomised hob for servicing, and spaying a jill also) i have a jill and a hob both spayed, cost a bit more but worth it i think. you'll get some good advice on here, along with shite too. all the best

Can never say there's no chance of a jill dieing if she's not taken out of season just the same as you can't say she'll not die if given the jill jab. What I can say is I've had jills for many years and if I'm not breeding with them they've been left in season and I've yet to see one poorly never mind die, just make sure to keep the hutch cleaned out regular [as should happen anyway] and all will be fine.
