how do i get my esp to sit and give me quarry after she has retrieved it instead of coming in at 300mph throwing at my feet the dance about on her back legs whst flinging her own slabbers over her face etc etc.

 

 

slowly but surely i have got her to sit as soon as she comes back but drops the decoy/quarry to soon or 5ft away.

 

i dont want to be to hard on her as i dont want her to think everytime she retrieves she gets shouted at.

yea i know alot more than most boys as i would be a bigger shooter than most, as im a contract worker 2 week's on 2 week's off etc

 

i get alot of time to read up on my passion of hunting and shooting.

You need to start off getting the dog to bring the dummy to your hand...forget about sitting and using commands like hold etc. To do this as he is coming back to you you can turn your back on him and jog/walk away from him...as he gets close to you then turn and gently hold the dummy whilst praising. I used treats, refused to take the dummy from my dog. I just kept saying "bring it back" or "where is it" .

 

Once you get to the stage the dog with keep hold of the dummy you will probably find he sits anyway, my lab did this automatically as he always sits when he is trying to please me.

 

Never snatch the dummy, lots of praise and I stroke his chest...avoiding putting my hand above his head etc.

Who will exercising the dog when your away? They could do with a bit of training on how to train as well it doesnt have to be much just keep the dog fresh

start off retrieving in a confined space, entry, alley etc. when the dog is coming every time with the dummy then add the sit comand, only do short training routines 10 minutes or so a couple of times a day. when its mastered this roll it out into a confined garden and so on
