Leeview 791
jamesmc I make my own 71/4" and a 101/4" needles, the smaller needle holds enough twine to do 2 4'6" nets 24 rows shaped out to 18meshes and back down it will go through an 1" ring but I knit onto a loop for the simple reason I lock my meshes onto the ring to stop them seperating I'll try putting a picture up of 2 nets done from one needle and before anyone thinks I've done them on the larger needle I'll put a picture up of 3 nets done with the larger needle Y.I.S Leeview 1 Quote Link to post
Tiercel 6,986
Im not impressed with loomis needles and I have tried them. Y.I.S Leeview I was using them......then went back to traditional... Went off of traditionals tooY.I.S Leeview what are you using now? Leeview prefers his own VULCAN needle. A Vulcan needle filled with twine. I have been using the lumis type needle for the last 30 odd years I have some that have seen some work and then some. [/url] The small needle compared to a new one. These days I make my own lumis type out of hardwoods. TC Edited May 4, 2013 by tiercel 4 Quote Link to post

matt101 115
looks like a well made bit of kit there tiercel. I think ill give them a go and make my own judgement as it is a clear advantage having 50% more twine on the needle. What are the negative points with lumis needles? ATB Quote Link to post

ATB None as far as I am concerned, but I have been using them for a long time. Others will tell you different. One of the major plus points for me is that you do not get line twist with the Norweigion type needle of which the Lumis is a copy. Another factor is that you do not have to pull the knots tight on the heel of the needle you can use the top or heel and both work well, saves the hands. Have a look at this short video watch how when I throw the loop to make the knot it just lays flat in a tidy loop. That shows that there is no twist in the twine when you have twist in the twine the loop will not stay flat. You can watch it in slow motion here. http://www.youtubeslow.com/index.php?v=ensL0Mwboew TC Edited May 4, 2013 by tiercel Quote Link to post
