Guest world.hunters
when entering pups to the larger game. did you see any affects on there standard of retreiving live to hand when it came to the rabbits, and at what age did you move your pup onto the big stuff. cheers W.H Quote Link to post
Royston2 0
Not so much bigger stuff but toothed quarry made my terrier blooded lurcher hard mouthed still retrieves well but never live to hand anymore Quote Link to post
doxhope 2
No lurcher Ive owned has brought rabbits back to hand alive, but all the deerhounds Ive worked did, but on a deer or fox pre ban, it was like a frenzied attack, even on the night they had got a deer or fox, any rabbit caught were alive, could let them go again for a pup if I wanted too... J Darcy 5,871
The dog did know the difference. They'd still retreive game, even when used for deer etc. What i have found that does effect retreiving is when a dog gets tired, i.e after alot of runs, then the retreive suffers. Personally i would rather stop when i realise this is happening rather than going for "just one more..."... Having learnt my lessons in the past... :clapping: Good Hunting...JD Quote Link to post
