paulus i think there is a big difference between a cow and a polar bear this malamute has obviously been trained to go for the nose .most dogs would shite them selves at the thought of a polar bear.i only put it on here because some idiots on here said malamutes have got no botttle they are just pack animals

BG, if you are serious in breeding this "type" of hunting dog, you may want to look at the laika type dogs. Not as bastardised as show dogs as malamutes and should more than have the minerals. Neither would be for me, but I wish you luck as you tread your own path.

Keep it quite and come back in two years time and give us an unbiased appraisal

were you not saying your mates mal grey jacked? now theyre the game dog to have over a grey hound. how about a Turkish kangal over a grey they hunt bears aswell if that's the type your after? surely those mals are no good in our mild climate they run better in the cold of night over there in -40 and we get that weather once every hundred yrs or so, where as the kangal is used to heat being from turkey

thats a bit strong BG. I can see what you mean about the potential of the mixing and I would rather a dog have the armoury to do the job quickly because of respect for the quarry. A dog that can catch and still has the power and resilliance to damage sounds ideal but I think what people are getting at is that the dogs in this country would have been bred for generations for the show world. You could be breeding a performance defect into the dogs. No one is gonna question the bravery of any sled dog that works in regions with real heavy duty predators, I think that if you did get the working, balls out type Malumate your thinking of and cross that, the results could be overkill for this country and potentially a real handfull
