Warrior Diet

Recommended Posts

Another Dangerous fad diet imo.

Regular Exercise/cardio mixed with some weights, swimming, jogging,boxing-training,bikeing,shuttle runs,hill/step work, regular speed walking, pressup's,situp's ect ect with a sensible healthy eating plan will safely improve your overall well being.

if history is to be believed, the Roman army as well as ancient sailors and explorers who were all apparently much fitter than their modern equivalents would have eaten a very similar diet.

I don't know still researching and plan on trying it when i'm back on my feet, but i'll find out one way or the other.

5 years mate...

Anyone done/tried it?

I don't know anyone who has,but it makes a lot of sense from the little i've read so far, going to try it when I've researched it more.

After about 20 years of eating small and frequently, it simply stopped working for me and I switched to eating in an 8 hour window (with occasional longer fasts) back in September, 2010. I'm leaner now at 41 than I ever was when I was running half-marathons, lifting seriously etc. and the freedom from constant hunger cannot be underestimated. The key is to really nourish yourself when you eat, because if you don't you simply won't be able to live without being obsessed about what you're shovelling in your cake-hole, but if you're eating nutrient dense food you'll easily find your self missing meals and, therefore, fasting and heading towards the sort of territory you're talking about

Best of luck, mate. This way of living is one of the best changes I've made to my health and well-being but that doesn't necessarily mean that it'll be right for you.

Is this similar to intermittent fasting? Where you fast for 18 hours and eat you entire calorific requirement in 6 - or a similar hourly split.

If so I've just put a bloke at work on this (3 weeks ago) and he is responding very well to it and says its easy to stick to.

This is a great way to get in shape been doing it last 6 months and got great results, just make sure you train in a fasted state, also make sure you have your macro's dailed in, here's a couple of links.

Im sure you would drop abit of weight on this diet but not sure of the over all health advantages n im sure with that long of gap between meals it would soon start eatin into your muscle especially if you've been active or doin a fair bit of training..eating a good breakfast n then reguler not to big meals through out the day has always done well by me n if i have a bad week of eating alot of crap i just make up for it by improving on the next week,i dont like to take things to seriousley so i eat junk sometimes but i always make sure i eat good stuff aswell ev in moderation i suppose n im in the shape i want to be so il stick with it atb..edited to add each to there own n all that n if it works for you then its all good ;)

f*****g hell max, the guy wants to lose a bit of weight not train for a triathlon. :D

You wouldnt do that for a triathlon, Youd just practice swimming, Biking and running ........lol

Max has hit that on the head, Id be interested in knowing how exactly Borderscot has followed kettlebells and the warrior diet for 5 years as Both have been the domain for elite athletes till about 3 years ago, If hes thinking of the spartan book or warrior cardio , Its a fairly new niche topic

not used to dieting like this at all.

I take it it's worked very well for you?

Kettlebells...

have you done kettlersize borderscot ?? or are you just training with kettles.

my wifes a kettlersize instructor,, instructs two classes a week,,i got to admit i havent done one of her classes , as i get to see the new routines each month,, and they look too brutal.

for anyone that doesnt know what it is,,, basicly you hold a kettle bell for 50 mins without it ever touching the floor,, and proced to go from one execize to another,, almost none stop,,, its akin to cerciut training with a weight :bad:

sooner go and do my usual squats,,bench, curls ,,presses ect ect,,,, im to old to change now :icon_redface:

I don't know about the warrior diet, but intermittent fasting can be very effective. I know a few people on it, and they swear by it. Basically, you eat 2500 cal a day, five days a week. The other 2 days ( non concecutive) you eat 600 cals. It's shocks your body and the weight fall off, and in your head, your only dieting 2 days a week. For women in 2000/500 cals.

Here's exactly how it is mate been training with KBs since 2007 - qualified as an IKFF kettlebell instructor with Steve Cotter (Cotter and the IKFF IS interesting Google search - fittest man I have ever trained with) in 2009 teach regular beginner and advanced KB classes...as far as KBs being the domain of elite athletes until 3 years ago??? That's simply not the case mate...Steve Cotter, Steve Maxwell, Mike Mahler and Pavel Tsatsouline have been travelling the world for the past 6 for 7 years teaching kettlebells to fitness pros, athletes, and normal folks with a fitness interest just like me - helped me rehab a shoulder injury and get the best ROM and strength I had in years in my other shoulder following a history of recurring dislocations.

Rannoch Donald (recently featured in Mens Health mag) has been teaching Simple Strength and KBs to folk in Edinburgh for several years - certainly more than 3 years...and those folk are as far removed from 'elite athlete status' as it's possible to get...and the Warrior Diet...mate Ori Hofmekler first published that way back n 2002 and I know folk who have been incorporating his ethos into their lifestyle for almost 10 years so once again your assertion that this has been the domain of the elite athlete isn't right...there's loads of folk the length and breadth of the country training with kettlebells and there's a huge Girevoy Sport( kettlebell competitions) movement growing by the month...it's all been going on for more than 3 years... All good - take care...

Yep - it's all in the mind mate ha ha ha...seriously for a minute you need to forget the 32kg bells and get back to basics with 16kg bells and go for reps with technique try 10 minute sets with the 16s in long/short cycle and snatch then progress to 20kgs, 24kgs, 28kgs and so on and make sure you're using 'competition' grade bells as the old cast iron strongman style bells don't lend themselves to high rep girevoy training...good luck...

And before you know it...this guy's amazing...

50 minute set with a 32kg bell would be impossible - just couldn't be done Tomo...I train a diverse range of folk to be honest...retired women who love their little 'pink' 4kg 'bells to mixed martial artists who think anything not painted red isn't worth lifting...:laugh::laugh:

Steve Cotter IKFF President and all round good guy...fittest guy I have ever trained with...

Aye, Cotter is an impressive dude  . I enjoy watching his stuff. I read a bit on IGX fórum for my fitness info, mate, so I keep an eye on Denisov and the other names in the GS world. You no doubt seen his record with 2 x 40 kgs? :icon_eek:

Tomo, I was just toying with the idea of Long Cycle Clean and Jerk with the 32s, not a 50 minute workout with them. I reckon young Ivan in the vid that BORDERSCOT put up would even struggle with a 50 minuter, never mind a 158lber like me

Hey Gitano - Steve Cotter is one of the nicest most humble guys I have ever met...he's good fun and really down to earth...

A good fitness benchmark with KBs is 24kg snatch tests - providing your technique and form is nailed down aim for 100 reps in 5 mins and work up to 200 reps in 10 minutes (if your form's poor you're not gonna make the latter and the amount of hand changes is up to you) The 200 in 10 minute set deserves respect and a self congratulatory pat on the back...it's a challenge...

Some of the best rack up massive numbers - Jared Savik of the USA once knocked out 281 snatch reps in 10 mins with a 24kg bell and one of the best KB sport athletes around at the minute is Gregor Sobocan...video clip below...241 reps in 10 mins...good form's the key though...
