Semen Straws And Artifcial Breeding

Recommended Posts

has anyone ever took semen straws from ther earth dogs ? i been reading about this the last couple of days and of what i can see its a big advantage for the younger hunters who still have plenty of time left with ther dogs as i heard a few times of the older ones i wish i had that dog in my kennle now, or the good ones always die young or unexpectedly, i was thinking more along the lines if i make a mistake in the futre having my origonal blood to fall back on what i started with or a second chance so to speak and if i can do this then why not also i was wondering for talkings sake if i had a bitch and a dog who i breed and was more than happy with the outcome but made mistakes with out crosses is it possible to save eggs and sperm and repeate the breeding 20 years later when both dogs are just good memorys ? if anyone can add any pros and cons to this i whuld appreciate edited to add i also read that litters from artificial breedings produce larger litters than normal is this true ?

hier it cost from 260,- euro up for onetime. and they dont do any garantie that the sperm will surviv.

the cost are just for get the sperm and freezing.

for artificial insemination they ask extra about 140,- euro.

every year on ice you has to pay 35,- euro for each portion.

the spezial vets for it told me between 50 and 60%

NEVER!!!!

i was buisy with it about 10 years ago and still like the idea but for me to much money for tomuch maybe! (then and now still)

i asked them why because with cows and pigs it works good i think. they told me with dogs it is more difficult and different.

but they couldnt or wont tell me why.

Would a vet keep the sperm for 20 yrs , or do ya store it under the frozen veg for a couple a decades ?

theres at least 2 places over here that will store it-i think theres a fee of about 50 euro a year for storing it-there was a greyhound litter in the states last year by a dog that was born in ireland in 1972

i dit artificial insemination once at one of my boerboels. the bitch didnt hold the stud dog so i asked the vet how to do it.

normally they will check the sperm but when you have had pups from this dog already i dont think you have to.

every cow farmer has a barrel to keep sperm to inseminate ther cows with maby you know someone who can keep it for you for free.

We've had dogs collected and stored it, and also sent frozen seman to Australia to help a friend. We're about to try a product called ovuplant on a bitch that is three and has never cycled to bring her into heat. It's supposed to be like 90% effective... and if it works it could be used to cycle bitches at appropriate times. We'll try it for the first time next week.

I'm about to get a boerboel from SA and a man named Lukas van Vuuren. How are they around the terriers?

have had contact with lucas myself too to import a black boerboel from SA. i have 2 brindle boerboels myself a male and a female that go verry well with the terriers. but dont know how other boerboels are. have to say lukas is asking a lot of money for his dogs for a south african breeder but verry nice dogs.

A friend recently had straws taken from her Irish Setter. Because of his age they took his siemen and froze it but tested a small sample of this twenty four hours later, before sending the straws for storage. On the basis of the test these straws were rejected but this first batch was done in a rush as it looked as if the dog was about to cowp and his seimen wasn't fresh.( even with actual matings there is a better chance of success if the dog has been drained within the last 49 days) As the first batch failed a second attempt was made three weeks later but now obviously the dog's sperm were only 21 days old so the test sample was in good condition and the straws were sent to storage. Fees I believe were £350 but I don't know what the annual costs will be.

Gerry Scullion reckons 85% chance of success if everything done right, including storage.

In short, it would need to be some dog. I know somebody had it done for their cocker as it had won a COM in a novice?????????????????????????????????????
