trigger2 3,146
what are peoples opinions on pups leavin the mother at 6 weeks old? as long as they are weaned and eating well then they will be o.k. some bitches get away from there pups as soon as they can, yet ive seen others letting pups suckle on them at 10, weeks old. paulus 26
The longer they can suckle off their mother the longer her antibodies will protect them, once there removed at 6 weeks then youv`e got another 4 -6 weeks before you can get them jabbed up. Quote Link to post
low plains drifter 10,696
Eight weeks is a good age to get one then you can get the pup to the vets for it's first injection, their not quite so whingy at this age either Quote Link to post
skycat 6,173
IMO 6 weeks is fine if the pup isn't going to be stuck in a kennel on its own all the time. Pups need to interact with other pups and dogs around them to develop normal social skills, which is why 8 weeks is usually recommended so they learn some of those skills before they leave their dam and littermates. I would always rear a 6 week old pup in the house to begin with: even sleep with it until it settles in, which is usually very fast as long as the pup doesn't get the chance to feel lonely or left alone. 2 Quote Link to post

Sirius 1,391
I would prefer 7 or 8 weeks, sometimes 6 is too young IMO Quote Link to post
Rory4 267
had most of mine at 6 weeks never a problem with it, if not feeding etc i arther them be with me bonding etc. pups comes everywhere with me.if not there cuddled up with another dog, never would lock a young pup up in a kennel Quote Link to post
Karl Daw 14
if they are eating and drinking on their own..why not mate.... Jamesmc this is wrong the dogs trust says QUOTE "Good breeders will not let a puppy go until he is at least seven weeks old. Some prefer to wait until 12 weeks. They should want to meet and interview you before the puppies are born or a few weeks later. This is a good opportunity for you as well, since you can see the conditions your pup is being raised in."
