laracroft.you are probaly right .most likely a pellet hit some main nerve unless a shotgun pellet had entered the brain causeing coordination problems

I won't be claiming right or wrong - just saying uptake through muscle and tissue is really poor, so lead poisoning from that source is unlikely - as you said, the pellets could have caused any number of other issues, as could natural disease.

Poor wee fecker,..good job you came on by...   I have never seen a CWD...must make a determined effort to rectify this...

Just sounds like a wounded deer mate. After the adrenaline wears off they lay down and give up the ghost pretty quick

Geoff - how heavy do you reckon that CWD was...is it larger than average...looks quite bulky...

borderscott.you are correct it was a very big specimen .i thought jesus that is above average size for a chink.on skinning it there was no fat on it so i thought im not eating that so i gave it to my friend for his whippets .if the deer had not been in poor condition it would have been a lot heavier .you can see by its tusks it was a mature buck.in the past i have caught preban bucks like this and they are a bit heavier.they have 1 to 7 young at a time and weigh according to wilkepedia 31lbs but this one was at least.45lbs .it probaly was a bit heavier i wished i had weighed it now .i know those tusks are very big and  sharp and could cut a dog very badly
