blackgreyhound 206
went out for a walk a few days ago and came across a chinese water deer buck .it went to get up and was staggering around like it was drunk.anyways i had a look at it and i could see pellets wounds in its head .so i thought i will let it get up and see if can get to the hedge . it went a few yds and was clearly not getting very far .so i dispatched it .on skinning it out i could see no muscle damage its liver was clear it had a few ticks on its head.so i thought maybe lead poisoining or lymes desease.there was no fat reserves on its body and i did not want to risk eating it .so i gave it to a friend for his dogs to eat tho i did say its at his own risk feeding it to the dogs.there were shot marks under its under skin which had formed into white lumps what do you think lead poisoining or something else . fitchet 788
Just sounds like a wounded deer mate. After the adrenaline wears off they lay down and give up the ghost pretty quick 3 Quote Link to post

BORDERSCOT 3,816
Amazing what you find when out and about... Some of it leaves you wondering... And other things just leave a bad taste in your mouth... Quote Link to post
blackgreyhound 206
neolever. your right i could see it was in a bad way and it couldnt go more than a few feet before it lost its footing.its breathing was very laboured and when i picked it up it made no sound ;which for a chinese is very unusaul they are normaly very vocal Quote Link to post
blackgreyhound 206
borderscott.i remember courseing a hare preban and it run perfectly when caught it had a front foot missing snare i reckon .i couldnt believe how fast it was for a hare with a front foot missing.what annoys me is the antis go on about deer courseing hare courseing but there is one thing forcertain .if a well trained dog gets hold of a deer preban or a hare its not going to escape 3 Quote Link to post
johnny boy68 11,726
I would imagine all the species of big fella's get a bit of a raw deal like this these days, more and more getting into shooting and the lurcher world isn't the only discipline that suffers from idiots getting into it, the shooting world is bedraggled with midnight cowboys and numpties that shouldn't be allowed a gun at the fairground let alone in the countryside. edited too add..........Well done Geoff you did the right thing. 2 Quote Link to post
LaraCroft 863
I've never heard of an animal getting lead poisoning from being shot, only by taking in lead by mouth - lead shot by birds, licking lead based paint for calves, lambs etc. The uptake of lead from a lead shot in a muscle is not going to get into the system enough to cause symptoms - especially one that size.
