bullcross13 58
As above and how good are they ?. What type do you use?. How long do you leave them on it?. Quote Link to post
spindolero 1,111
something i'd associate with bull terrier training. even then the owners tend to take the dog on a long walk prior to the mill and a walk after to cool down not saying its not beneficial but if done properly not a timesaver 2 Quote Link to post
whippet 99 2,613
as efficient and effective the modern tredmill is i would sooner be out on pushbike .........putting the miles in but that is just me ...... 4 Quote Link to post
Westy76 546
Pals of mine use them HFmills I think they've got, they all have sbt but I know another lad who has an electric one he puts his lurchers on Quote Link to post
weasle 1,119
I have a electric one here,Wouldnt say i use it to keep a dog fit,Work keeps them fit. Wouldnt use it this time of year a hour or 2 stroll is plenty. But during the winter,I use it depending on what the dogs doing work wise. I find up to a hour at a good trot plenty, mine also changes gradient up and down hill,Has a top speed of about 25 i think.Dog enjoys it and will gladley jump on. Quote Link to post
bullcross13 58
Thanks for all your replies not sure weather I will bother getting one .They don't sound as useful as I thought they would be Quote Link to post
Westy76 546
What are you looking to get out of it? 1 Quote Link to post
Carraghs Gem 1,675
Would rather bring the mutt for cycle, free running, swim... Treadmills are for bull types and terriers... Think a lurcher needs to ecercise all its muscles Quote Link to post
spiderfly 111
I use it on all my dogs terriers , lurcher and even springers 2 or 3 timesa week on a nice canter speed for about 15mins which really tones the dogs and after they use it i take them free running in the fields to cool down not a time saver but it is a good way to tone and get a dog to top fitness with having to do all the hard work yourself Quote Link to post
bullcross13 58
What are you looking to get out of it? My thinking was that it would keep the dogs ticking over. This would be along with there walks and free running . I got a young bull cross bitch gifted when I got her she was very under weigh , and had very little muscle. I have a lot of weigh on her and the muscle is coming ,but very slow just thought it might help ,I'll get there with her. She is a young bitch . Quote Link to post
Oldskool 29
no denying that a tredmill/carpetmill etc will keep a dog fit but wouldnt recommend for a lurcher will not work the same muscle groups the dog needs for turning etc good daily walks off the lead letting a dog work up always does the job for me. i have used tredmills in the past with dogs bull types and lurchers and some do love it and wont harm letting them have a good fast walk on the mill for 10minutes added to there normal routine but waste of money to "keep" a dog fit. good hunting 1 Quote Link to post

bigdaz 688
Each to their own, but If I had to rely on a treadmill to keep my dogs fit I wouldnt own them in the first place. Quote Link to post
