fitchet 788
craigluckyjihad.im glad to read you got plenty of hares.being a old fogey i only like my home ground. only time i went courseing on strange ground got chased in the eighties brockett hall and had to leave a dog behind . no matter what happened I wouldn't be leaving my dog behing I'd rather get a beating off the keepers or farmer, no proper dog man would leave a dog say you have a few dogs aswell as other hunting gear and a car which will also get taken if your caught, just ask fuji of here what happened to him I've never deserted man dog or ferret when out and I never will. If you haven't got the balls to see the job through you shouldnt be at it simple ...... Edited April 22, 2013 by fitchet 4 Quote Link to post

nothernlite 18,089
paulus.one of the reasons i gave up lurchers some time ago .is you canott chase whaht is not there.in 1970 when i went first went coursing i never thought things could get this bad hare wise.there are plenty of deer and a few rabitts but deer just get you into to much trouble .if the mobile phone had not been invented things would be a lot diffferent.nowdays any oik out in the countryside only has to make a call on his ten pound tesco mobile and before you know whaht happend .its the police in a four wheel drive and the bloody police helicopter overhead .if there no hares its pointless haveing a good courseing dog well get yourself a rabbit dog and move with the times after all hare coursing illegal and if you get chased you will just run away and leave your dog Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
I always think it's ironic how some owners expect their dog to go beyond the call of duty for them and yet the expectation isn't reciprocated. A true lurcherman always has a lurcher, if there's no game where you live you get in the car. I am very familiar with BG's area and I'm here to say that there's a plague of gear there, least from what I seen, over the course of many years, that's why lads travel three or four hours from the north to run their dog, week in, week out........ Each to their own I guess..... 5 Quote Link to post
Huan72 687
I could no more leave my dog than cut off my own arm......I would front King Kong for her, I'm not trying to sound big thats just the way it is, she trusts me implicitly and i am not gonna betray that. 1 Quote Link to post

chester 147
Used to be some great fields up by my local river 20 years ago you could walk these fields and always kick up a few Hares, last year, and about a fortnight a go i went to the same fields and they are bare, have never seen a Hare, heard they were getting lamped 12 months of the year, and there is a lot of Buzzards about, don't know much about them, but i suppose they will take Leverets. They look big and mean enough Joe, but they mostly feed on insects, small rodents, dead carcasses, they dont have the strength in the talons of say a Goshawk, more of an oppotunist/scavenger, thats why they do so well, tons of em about like you said. Mate reckons he's seen one giving a lambing ewe a hell of a time tho..peckin at the arse end. Do they not call em 'tourist eagles' up your way! buzzards can and do take hares last season we disturbed a buzzard off an adult hare while on a walk the hare was still alive but had the eyes pecked out 4 lads witnessed this .
