bobby blackheart 1,209
friday noticed that my patterdale bitch in pup was off her food-took her to vets saturday morning, checked her over said she had infection in the womb-was talking about hysterectomy and that-explained that it was the last possible time i could use the dog as he is so old and that i had everything riding on this bitch-dont have anymore bitches with enough work under their belts-anyway he gave me some antibiotics and said keep an eye on her and come back monday-brought the bitch home and put her in the whelping box inside the house-about 3 oclock yesterday she started labour and gave birth to 2 unformed pups -soon as i took them away from her she was up and about no problem-drinking and eating a little bit-she has gone back to her original size and doesnt seem in pain-no blood leaking from her-she is passing stools-abit small and black in colour-have been giving her natural yogert as my mate says it helps fight infection-she is bouncing to get out for a walk etc-worked out the dates and she was only 52 days-so she was early-do any of you think she still has fully formed pups that will arrive on the delivery day or not?was really hoping that she maybe had 1 good 1 alive inside?never ever had anything like this happen before so am abit spun out do you think the bitch will be able to have another litter next year or that its a sign not to try her again?in truth she is one of the best ive had the pleasure to work and own if anyone has any constructive information please comment and help me get to the bottom of it-i dont trust any vet-hysterectomy?surly you could do a emergency c-section and she gets to keep her womb?thanks for reading bobby my bitch 1 Quote Link to post
timmy k 590
Last year my digging buddy put his dog over his bitch and she got a womb infection, nearly killed her. He put the same pair together this year she had 2 pups, one died at birth the other 2 days later, neither pup looked that healthy and maybe it was due to a inhospitable womb, but just to edge are bets we put his dog to my bitch (the mother to his bitch). Theirs 4 weeks to go so fingers crossed all goes well. Had your bitch whelped before? If so it might work in your favour, I think sometimes some bitches are not good brood bitches and never will be, but good luck with future stock, it's one thing we should always do strive to improve are stock, not just for ourselves but for the future of the working terrier. 2 Quote Link to post
marshman 7,757
I'd doubt that there'd be anymore pups left mate , but you never know. Also if it where me I'd give her another try next time. A proper sickener though ! 1 Quote Link to post
jayjay 264
sorry to hear that bob, strange one that......... I suppose if you wanted to be certain there are no more pups there, you could get her scanned, but i'm no expert......, but would have thought that once a cycle had started (as in going into labour and having contractions) I would have thought that everything that was there waiting to come out, would have come in time......just my thoughts, hope the bitch is ok, all the best, jay.
