snakey 4
I know this is a topical subject but I have been having a massive problem with pigs on the golf courses that I deal with ie. digging up the courses looking for the shafer grubs. the problem that I have is that I can deal with the moles but the pigs are making one hell of a mess. Don`t you think that there is a time when enough is enough and the time has come when the problem of the of the Badger has to be dealt with?. is there to much pussy footing around where Badgers are concerned? foot and mouth! do we need that again? Our jobs would be on the line if this nasty disease would ever surface again. why do we have to put up with the majority when the majority dont understand what goes on in the real countryside. This is a question that I would probably expect a lot of answers or questions I don`t really know, but i hope that we can get a good and reasonable argument as to what we ( the people of the countryside and the ones that know best ) should do next. Are we being forced into a corner or are we being slowly crushed so that we don`t have a voice? I think that it is about time that the countryside stood up and started to battle against the masses that are drowning the great countryside that we have left. we now have a massive problem with Badgers? broadleaf 3
The badger supporters will tell you that the areas likely to be affected by this problem could have been sprayed to kill the larvae that they are after before the problem arises. This is fine if it is the same area affected every year or you have a crystal ball. They will then say that the area can be protected by decent electric fencing which is fine if it is a small area that is not in the way of the golfing I do feel that when there is genuinely no other option that there should be a system where someone can come out and look at the problem and if they cannot come up with any solution that special permission should be granted to cull the badgers that are actually seen in the damaged areas .It would be no use trapping and removing them as where would they be released Quote Link to post
Matt 160
You've got no chance of getting a licence to cull the badgers doing the damage, sorry but none, zero, zilch. As suggested, your best options are larvae control (applied now for next year) and, if necessary, electric fencing. Apart from the licences currently being issued for culling as part of a scientific experiment, the only other licences are for 'gating' out of an existing sett (I've had a few), and I'm afraid that limited damage to a golf course at limited times of the year just won't cut it. Good luck with it. Quote Link to post

raymond1 262
I blame Walt Disney , Bill oddlybolocks and bill bailey for giving these cute creatures names and the ability to talk its about time we had an online vote about shrinking badgers numbers and that way the plover and curlew might still make a come back 2 Quote Link to post
j1985 1,984
You think its that bad that we need to get all hitler on them and start a mass euthanasia programme ? If shooting them was made legal the areas seriously affected would see a drastic decrease in numbers due to the farmers and anyone else who's livelihood is affected by them going out of their way to remove them. Just had to change my mobile number thanks to certain idiots cramming my voicemail with threats and insults. 04fox8 168
Last few times I've been out with the rifle, I've seen more badgers than rabbits! We very rarely saw 1 untill about 4 or 5 years ago, but they are in abundance now! It's all well and good some people 'liking' their badgers etc, but there are now far too much of them. Maybe our best hope of seeing a reduction is if some disease effects them and spreads perfusely due to their over crouding (like Maxi in rabbits) ?? Not suggesting anything should be introduced like Maxi was tho. 1 Quote Link to post

broadleaf 3
Cant really see a problem in putting badgers on the quarry list.Thousands of people are out every day shooting deer, foxes and rabbits etc and there are still plenty of them.Just put them on quarry list for certain calibre rifles but still keep setts out of bounds or just keep it to (if causing damage or disease and only in the areas where damage or disease is being caused) Quote Link to post
