ollywilli 49
Ok how do they work is there a one way trap on them? Darbo. Is it made out of a plant pot chicken wire and a plant pit tray at the other. Interesting though. Quote Link to post
darbo 4,776
They are made out of chicken wire ollie. The flowerpot end is the end to put in the hole. When the rabbit bolts the door flaps open and swings back onto a plastic ridge. The opposite end has a catch on which you open to get the rabbit. Mine are light in weight but akward to carry.I carry them in a very large holdall.I use them along fence lines next to a busy main road. Sometimes the ferret is straight in behind the rabbit and gets in the trap with the rabbit, till you get there to sort it out.A few pics might give you a better idea. Fergus 18
They look like a "friendly rabbit trap". I have a couple and they are marketed to not nessisarily needing to be used in conjucntion with ferrets. Just set them in a warren and come back the next day. You can make your own just out of heavy gauge chicken wire without trap doors to use with ferrets. Just make it like a rolled tube and taper from the opening to a small tight enclosed end. The rabbit gets driven in to the end of the tube net and can't back out. They will catch more than one rabbit which purse nets fail to do if you have one bolt straight after the first. Some ferreters use thes exclusively and only use purse nets for pop holes or holes where the tube nets won't work. Quote Link to post
The one 8,493
Ive often thought they would be handy in some situations but they appear bulky to carry and store Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
Could be handy for a well used large warren, one that has a lot of cover, and is bad to ferret, but i wouldn't use them ferreting. bad enough lugging the equipment on the old back, without carrying a few of them. for ferreting, would rather stick to the traditional nets, but as i said they do have their uses. And im sure Chalky wouldn't use them on his pest control if they had no purpose. 1 Quote Link to post
The one 8,493
I can think of one place along side a road but with a couple of guys in the field i take the road side its ferret able but it draws loads of attention from passing cars , if i had a few of them sticking out the ground they might slow down even more Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,738
The bolt traps are nothing new and are simply another tool, in the rabbiters armoury... All the best, Chalkwarren.. Edited October 5, 2013 by Phil Lloyd Quote Link to post
Guest vin
great piece of kit... no good for poachers.. but great for serious pest control jobs. and before anyone asks..usually attached to the ground/warren with a long net pole or preferably an old golf club with a spiked tip. My question is...Why has'nt one of the net makers made one out some strong nylon in place of the wire mesh ? some strong 12oz or stronger even..and the rest out of plastic.. Could be a very handy item in your kit bag..and you would be able to carry them, unlike the wire mesh ones. . it wouldnt be ridgid in construction, but would surely do the same job ? Summer project for the nett riggers on here. Quote Link to post
