Came across a mallard sitting on eggs today there isn't a river or pond for at least mile away there's dykes and drains alright but would they survive there or would the nest that far from water anyway we find few nest each year but be always be closer to rivers

Being that far from water won't kill them, foxes, dogs, cats etc would be the biggest problem. Do they need to cross roads to get to water? Might be a problem when they hatch. Good find though :thumbs:

Ya be handier go the road they'll have go through forestry bogs cross roads never make it.I'd say twas her first clutch inexpiernce she went back nest when we moved off.there's foxes about the woman that owns the plantation we were working in told us not go over disturb em she enjoys watching em when the cubs are out their there every year.

Doesn't sound too hopeful but you never know mate, natures funny. She might be lucky and move them early in the morning hopefully a Sunday lol. Think your right though, don't fancy there chances. Hopefully only a couple hatch and she gives them a piggy back lol.

ive been looking for some in the last day or two to go with my bacon buttie :laugh: ive got goose egg today :thumbs:

Ohhhh sounds mighty fine. I've never tried goose egg mate that I can remember lol. I won't tell you the eggs I have tried though :laugh:

Baw were fed up of hearing about your egg theiving days as a youngster, told you before it's not big and its not clever... Lol

Never tried a goose egg either.....canny beat a good bacon roll with a duck egg.... Lovely!!!
