seang 163
Came across a mallard sitting on eggs today there isn't a river or pond for at least mile away there's dykes and drains alright but would they survive there or would the nest that far from water anyway we find few nest each year but be always be closer to rivers
baw 4,360
Being that far from water won't kill them, foxes, dogs, cats etc would be the biggest problem. Do they need to cross roads to get to water? Might be a problem when they hatch. Good find though
seang 163
Ya be handier go the road they'll have go through forestry bogs cross roads never make it.I'd say twas her first clutch inexpiernce she went back nest when we moved off.there's foxes about the woman that owns the plantation we were working in told us not go over disturb em she enjoys watching em when the cubs are out their there every year. paulus 26
mallards nest away from the main body of water they frequent, so dykes, ditches etc is normal, however as soon as they hatch they will take the duckling back to the main waterway
