marshman 7,757
What's your best days sport ? I'm not talking about large numbers although you can if you want to . I mean your most enjoyable where your dog performed well or you had a real good day with good mates . You know the day that always stands out as a cracking day for whatever reason. Quote Link to post
youcanthide...BANG 1,051
nothing was killed but the first time i went clay pigeon shooting when i shot a shotgun the first time was the best day ive had, a kill at the end of a day doesnt make the day a good one. some of my best days are when ive come back empty handed, when ive just had a laugh and some good banter with my mates. although that's usually when we haven't had owt and got nothing else better to do sorry just replied as i saw it in new topics started didnt realise you were just on about terrier work. sorry Edited April 19, 2013 by youcanthide...BANG Quote Link to post
marshman 7,757
Right then ill start and see if that encourages some of the members to share a few memory's lol. This always will stay in my memory because it was my first terrier and also the first time that we caught a fox . My mates and me where about 12 years old and mooching about an old dump behind a few factory's near where we lived . We had our cattapults and our motley crew of dogs with us , our dogs were bushing out the odd bunny for us to shoot at ,with not one of us getting anywhere near our targets. Then my little jrt made his way along an old dirty ditch that separated the factory from the dump and disappeared down an earth that was dug under the footings of the factory . It was only a single hole and we could hear him baying away . Now in them days none of of us had a locator collar so being keen we sent one of the lads to get a shovel and when he came back we set about digging the dog out . It took us ages but eventually we got to where we could see the little dogs tail wagging ,looking back it was straight in and wasn't deep but we were having a laugh so the time went quick. I grabbed my little dogs tail and felt my hands down his side untill I could get a good enough grip and eased him out . As I got him out he was latched on to the mangyiest ole fox I've every seen ! I was over the moon and it started my digging addiction it was a time when you could dig anywhere you wanted . Proper good days ! 10 Quote Link to post

CorkyJohn 808
On a shoot doing fox drives, keeper had invited some wankers who had terriers with them. Halfway through a drive I noticed padmarks in the snow entering a little rabbity place. I knew another dog would get the chance so I dropped my 14 month fell in & asked a walking gun to stand, we were 50yds from finishing. Dog was on in seconds, dug a shovel depth through to the dogs back. One of the wankers tried to help & drew my terrier by his back legs, I had a go at him as the dog seemed to have hurt his back. The fox was dispatched then we moved on, my dog was tucked up & obviously not right so was returned to his box. One fox shot on the next drive, then we moved on to a gorse bank that always held a fox or 2. There is a decent size earth in the open that has been there for years, it runs between 2 - 7ft deep hard digging down to 5ft then sand. The drive finished, we returned to the earth where the wankers dog marked. He was entered & was followed in circles for an hour. Then his mate dropped a russell in to help, the rest of the wankers all agreed this was the best option, not my dogs so let them get on with it. The fox showed at one point then ran them around til the dogs were lifted. Another 2 terriers were tried & lifted after another hours run around. My mate suggested using the fell but I wasnt keen with his back injury. I returned to the motor & he was curled up but when he seen the collar he threw himself out screaming as he knew what was coming. I let him off his lead 20yds off the earth & he nearly knocked himself out hitting the hole, he rattled the game round that earth for 20mins til we got a mark at 2ft, soon down to him & he had taken a fair bit this time & a bad bite on the leg which needed urgent attention so we left the idiots & left to attend to the dog. He was a young dog, bred & entered by myself. He probably only had a handful of digs but the fact he pulled that final dig out of the bag made my day, I'd seen a good few dogs get the runaround over the years in that place. Just a text book dig to alot of lads with experienced, reliable terriers but a result infront of the keeper 7 Quote Link to post

jessdale 416
@jessdale. Yes mate we get that you love every day your out with your dogs lol. Is there any that stand out though that you might like to share lol ? I used to share lots and lots of days out on these forums with a write up and pictures. Then lots and lots more. Then even more. But then hunting was banned. "before the ban" does nothing for me. So every day is a best day my friend. Edited April 19, 2013 by jessdale Quote Link to post

Zerky 133
Best days can be made up of many different things seeing different country, with different lads, with different dogs working well, long digs, deep digs, a lot of fox's accounted for, And if all these come in to play in the same day you have defo got a winning day that wont be forgot! 1 Quote Link to post
aaron01 737
Nine foxes driven to lurchers three digs some may have double that but for our squad a record have had a few eights on different days but the nine still stands roll on next year 1 Quote Link to post
