Guest Ditch_Shitter
The 'stupid hair cut' seen on the text book show poodle of today actually stems from the traditional cut given these Working Dogs. Stop laughing. Get over it. Look again as " Dog Men ". The fur is left long to cover and protect the brain, heart and lungs, pulse points from the shock when the Dog leapt into a freezing river of lake to Retrieve shot game. So, forget Crufts. Just sit and day dream about some harsh coated, relatively big Dog which has had its coat shorn down by blokes pretty much like us. With hand shears. Now ye starting to think about a Real Poodle. My mate, Chris H. One of the finest Lurchermen I ever had the privelidge of knowing, was obsessed with the Poodle Lurcher. It had always been his personal dream to get hold of one. Bred right it would have, he considered, all or even more of the attributes and qualities a Moucher would look for in a Dog. Excellant coat. Superb nose. Intelligence to spare. Solid feet. So on and so forth. Granted; Finding a decent, working standard poodle in uk would be daunting, if not down right impossible. In those days we didn't have the internet. Ye'd pretty much have to have travelled to France and sought out the right Dog by knocking on doors. That'll be why he made do with 'The Usual Suspects' and simply used his own skill to bring out the best in what was available to him. To suggest there are enough, even too many crosses out there seems to me a bit Luddite. Were we not to have experimented, there would have been no Greyhound. Then man experimented and tested his further theories and we got the Lurcher. Thus I'd suggest there aren't too many 'breeds' available. More like there's too many of each type. Just too many 'Lurchers'. And, as long as kids insist on breeding their own " World Class " piece of mediocrity to their mates? There always will be. That's where I see the problem. As for the asking price on those pups? 600 E's? What's that? Something around the four hundred quid mark? Something like that? Scary money, for sure. But plenty of people pay that and more for 'pet' ~ at best ~ quality 'pedigree' lap Dogs and all sorts these days. Why should Lurchers be two a penny? Better bred Dogs do and should command better money. Perhaps there'd be less messers if it took some serious consideration to aquire a Dog like ones mate down the road has? Having said all that; Would I buy one? Hell no! I have no further use for a Lurcher of any description now. Do I condone the asking price? Not without knowing a damn site more about the facts behind those claims, no. Nor would I suggest anyone here rush out and buy one - at any price. But I Do feel it could be a perfectly viable cross and just don't understand why any self professed " Dog Man " should deride it, in principle, out of hand. Quote Link to post

MOP THE FOOR WITH THE THING TOO Hows that for a marketing ploy...think of all the money you could make...eco friendly lurcher, not only will it kill your dinner but you can use it to wash down the blood from the bench tops, mud from the floor, then make it lie next to the door as a draft excluder Can come in various sizes. Toy poodle for bench tops, standard for the floor MOLL. Quote Link to post

Well apart from high levels of intelligance and water proofness, they'd be hypoallergenic for sneezy hunters and presumably might not look very much like a lurcher which could be handy for stealth Don't want one tho......
