Alright just thought I'd quiz you lads who do a lot of hunting with guns

 

Looking at getting a shotgun doesn't have to be brilliant, I want something thats decent build quality and doesn't cost the earth..... whats your recomendations??

 

ps tried a silver pigeon the bro in law has and its a very nice gun...

Ive got a mcnab highlander here with a sporter style forend and an intentional discolouring to the metal work thats quite nice and cost me about 700 squid, shot a lot with it but im planning on going down the silver pigeon road

All depends on what you want to spend Ian. Is it for hunting, will you shoot clays? In my opinion you won't go wrong with a second hand Beretta 686. It'll last longer than you and they shoot beautifully. Although I'm a little biased as I own quite a few Beretta's !!

Beretta Teknys - can't really fault it - joined the local clay club this week so looking forward to seeing how it works out for that - will really see how reliable it is then.

They're the best auto on the market Corky. My Mrs has a 20 Bore Teknys and I love shooting it The Franchi autos are also very good and are made in the same factory as the Berettas.

i have two o/u shot guns but this is my new franchi 712 3 shot auto shoots 3 1/2 magnums has a scope rail on it if you want to shoot slugs its a m/c come with three chokes sells for about £650 or under mine was £550 as it was a x demo .its a good all rounder it will do the lot, i shoot well with it ,its just right for foxs as you have the three shots to hit the bugger if its a running shot ,deer if you use sg,or slugs and ducks ect and it shoots the standed shot for the crows,pigeons ect or the 3 1/2 magnum for the long range shots or the xtra hitting power for foxs ect..it does every thing a o/u will do but more but dont put it down as you may lose it

Brummy: I have the one with the 'xtra wood' stock - cheaper etc.

 

I read on some US forum that Beretta give you a lifetime warranty on the stock and will refinish it free of charge when you want - mine is like new but would be handy to know for sure - do you know if that's true?

 

 

I used to have an Sarasketa side by side for years - you'd miss the two barrels sometimes - buckshot in one and 7's in the other - you'd be ready for anything the dogs put up

Bailkel, the russian purdey I would go for a aya or a baikel. Both built to last with minimal problems and costs.

 

Then again me mates got a 8 shot beneli, black hawk, one of only a few in the country, tis the biz

Depends on what you're lookin for,how much you wanna spend,for and what you wanna shoot,bottom range baikal(foolproof)middle berretta(any type,altho in auto's the berretta ulrika is a cracking tool to use)top of the top of the range sell your car,dogs and house,then you can look really cool!!! lol
