firepower 68
I have been after a decent springer for a while and I bought a HW80 off a chap in the local pub (really) Knowing that they are notorious for being difficult to keep under the legal limit I dropped it over the chrono. The fps is 1120 and the pellets are Accupel at 14.3gr. That gives 40.12 foot pounds, no way is an air rifle knocking out that kind of power surely. The backstop was a 3/4 inch piece of plywood against my brick built man shed. It blew holes straight through and knocked fook out of the blocks at twenty yards Quote Link to post

Lewis Ste 245
dismantle the gun bud or take the spring out before you do anything then your best off buying a v-mach kit to put init will make the gun as sweet as a nut to shoot and under the limit 1 Quote Link to post
firepower 68
I haven't had an air rifle since I was a kid, all of my stuff is FAC. How do I get an air gun on my ticket? The gun hasn't been shot for donkeys years would that make a difference? Edited April 18, 2013 by firepower 1 Quote Link to post
fry 209
i'm only messin ha ha Quote Link to post
AirgunGuy 362
I'd get that spring put asap as you've just advertised that you have an illegal firearm!!! People done allsorts to them years ago...beefed up springs, extra washers etc. Likelyhood is it won't be accurate at that power. Another vote for the v-mach...transformed my 97k Quote Link to post
firepower 68
I'll give it a good clean then drop it over the chrono again tomorrow. If it really is pushing out that power I'll drop the spring out. Makes you wonder how people stay out of prison when they don't own chronographs. I wouldn't have had a clue without mine. BenjaminCadd 109
That calculation is right aswell, that is some seriuos power coming out. Quote Link to post
BenjaminCadd 109
Is it diseling as well that would increase the power! Quote Link to post
firepower 68
What actually causes an air rifle to diesel? I thought that it was oil in the barrel?? No smoke when it was fired. Quote Link to post
BenjaminCadd 109
Yeah from oil in the barrel or oil / grease in front of the piston seal in the chamber, but if there is no smoke, that probably is it true power. Quote Link to post
low plains drifter 10,766
Had an myself, always thought it was pointless to have such a big and heavy gun as a 12 foot pounder,I would say get it on your ticket, and get some venison in your freezer Quote Link to post
