If You Could Only Use One

Recommended Posts

Well i`ve shot a lot of springers in my time (the last 40 yrs) and all in 22,its not hard to learn your guns trajectory with a range finder and pre learned hold over stuck to the back of your lens cap (i`m not having a dig lads the 22 is a deadly piece of kit - dont i know it )

Recently i treated myself to the first pcp i have ever owned - the HW 100 KT 177 cal, and i can`t put it down,- i find it very hard to miss, simple as!

I have been going down to the ranges on a regular basis with the pcp and once the + cross hairs are set,"they are set".

I find that i am lying in wait for my quarry with the pcp (sniper style hunting) rather than mooching around, camo`d up in wait after learning my ground.

The 100 kt on the bi pod is a lethally efficient accuracy machine, and headshot on a still day is frankly "easy".

Hey my rifle was the Feinwerkbau 127 sport 22 for nigh on 32 yrs - the HW 100 KT 177 makes it look like its apprentice,- thats my humble two pence worth lads - pcp end of.

P.S the game bag simply isn`t big enough now.

It's a hard choice, but Unfortunatly my views of a springer was an smk xs19 which was sold to me buy a local gunshop saying that its the best rifle they had in the store (clearly not) I managed to find woodfield stores and get it tuned by will but even then I find it very hard to shoot. I learned the rules of a springer in a totally alien environment with a lot of heart ache, until I found a gun club close to me which opened a new world. Now I have settled down with an air arms s200, which I absolutely adore, will never get rid of it, and at the moment does exactly what I plan. The only thing I am a little worried about is stripping it down for servicing. Where as my smk I could do that all day long.

At the current moment in time I would have to say Pcp, one because its the first proper air rifle I have owned and have had the priverledge of firing a lot more but they are not mine so I cannot say which I prefer. A rifle to me is part of you, if it doesn't connect then quite frankly you won't shoot well with it, Secondly, I am what's known I guess as a very safe hunter, I shoot only what I am confident with, and that's lieing down with a bipod, I only ever shoot other positions if they are supported, or I'm in a hide with shooting sticks. Thus a springer at this time wouldn't be too great as I can't add a bipod to it. I practice in other positions regularly, but when it's quarry in mind, I want the odds of me missing or injuring to be nearly nil, so I opt for my belt buckle every time and get into a position to use it, if not I leave it. When I roost shooting I always have my shooting sticks with me.

I am however hoping in the future and purchase a tx200, something I have always wanted to own. It will be then that I shall have to have a serious view on this subject.
