One In A Million

Recommended Posts

I never had an outstanding lurcher that was a one in a million dog how ever ive had the pleasure of hunting with 2 dogs of different breeding both owned by very good mates. 1. was a collie grey x collie grey called rebel this dog had balls to burn great taking foxes hares rabbits cats in high numbers also was great out digging marked holes and done his job outstandingly when out digging with out going into details, he took 4 foxes in one day out doing cover and didn't mind teeth. 2. the other is a bull grey called meg this bitch has put many a good dog to shame again she is a great taker of fox and all other game great around holes and both were great with stock and other dogs and a great marker of fox in holes. 1 thing that sticks in my mind these 1 in a million dogs are always in the right place at the right time every time they go out and I think this also helps in the making of these higher rated dogs. could it be a 6th sense or they could be just lucky ba$tards .

A deerhound type lurcher, bought from Dennis Brown when he lived in north yorkshire.

25" steel grey broken coated dog, sire was a track sprint greyhound, mother was an old deerhound type bitch that Dennis had for yrs.

my dog was a natural retreaver, jumped for fun.took everything from rats to fallow(this was 1993), great lamp dog and could bend the odd day light hare on small fields, very fast up and at em type.

took his first fox in a corn field at 10 mths old, he jumped a fence to find it .

was good on roe over the fields were i used to live.

broke his leg running a hare on a pit road that a friends springer put up in the middle of summer, kids on bikes, dog walkers etc and it got up and the dog ran it and cartwheeled over on rough waste ground.

i had his leg pinned and two days after his last vet visit he jumped my garden gate(first and last time) and messed it up again.

i was gutted and had him pts, last dog i ever let get to me.

borderscott .i only have had two dogs that i consider to be good one was spider gsdxg very clever very strong and very fast 27 inch 75lbs caugtt 7 hares one morning daylight. 240 deer by the time he was 5 caught most deer in the dark. over 500 hares used to put his head underwater to pull out moorhens .and charlie deerhoundlurcherx gsd 24 ins 60lbs never ever refused to chase would chase hares beagle style for miles caught lots of cwd preban in the dark .made faster lurchers look soft. genuine dog gave his all every time.would go thru the thickest bramble after muntys preban .would push anything out of thick cover foxes rabitts deer pheshants etc .many time came out of thick cover with his ears bleeding where the thorns and brambles had cut him .even the jack russels were not as good in thick cover
