i have seen some really good dxg on hares preban.they are very fast strong and have great stamina .good ones are faster than sxg top end .they are bigger more powerful with good stamina and good ones are very fast ..so why are there not very many about now days ?

Well being faster means nothing if the saluki cross is fast enough already. Perhaps the fact that all the main coursing competitions were open to all, and yet the saluki crosses won them all answers your question?

In fairness ther was a lot of deerhound types killin the prices had a line not just deer/grey tho in the 70's-80's killin 3's 4's n 5's in the day but since the saluki took off the old type died out plus coursin changed the old dog used to be field and fen lampin moochin coursin and all but now the game has become more out for dog for job kind of thin

I think a lot of it had to do with the fen coursing videos,people seeing the saluki lurchers catching well,and a good running style to watch,especially the faster types,it became fashionable to have saluki crosses,now people are running them all over the country not just on open land,also when B.D. stopped breeding,that might have had a big effect on the quality of the deerhound crosses available,as they were a good line

Thing is most deerhound crosses you hear about aren't first crosses ,they usually have other breeds in them . I tried pure deerhound and home bred 1st crosses, bred both ways ,gxd and dxg wasn't impressed .

that def [BANNED TEXT] mate very good point all the gud uns Ive mown of have not been straight deer/grey not satin there aint any good that type but the gud uns have always been lurcher to lurcher odds n sods bred for working ability not what breed they got in em

Jimmy Frazer bred a litter of genuine first crosses in Belfast 35 years ago. He kept a dog called Blue and I got a bitch from the litter, don't even remember her name... Both were average performers with above average looks. The show people would have loved them....but I was killing more with a pure whippet bitch I had at the time.

its like everything in life times changed and not many crosses from years ago have lasted in the coursing world had a deer grey irish terrier lurcher years ago decent big dog then i got a saluki bred pup the big dog then became my fox dog

the problem is that some deerhoundxgreyhounds are badly bred and some salukixgreyhounds are badly bred .you cannot judge any cross by the bad excamples you can only judge by watching the best of any cross. the dog in any cross that has superiour speed with stamina is going to pick up the hare preban before the dog with lower speed especially if run in singles not pairs .all i can say is that those who say sxg are rubbish have not seen a good one and those who say dxg are rubbish have not seen a good one
