Terrier Sam 297
Just wanted to put a little thread up for our 3 yr old whippet, Jip who sadly had to be pts tonight due to a brain tumour. I'd rather not go into detail about it as he's better off remembered for the good bits. I owe this dog a lot as if it wasn't for the missus convincing me to get him, neither me nor a mate would have ever got involved in lurchers and lamping with lurchers if it wasn't for the times that we had out with him. He always gave his all whilst out. When he ran, my heart was always in my mouth but he always got away with it. come his second season, just gone, he showed his true skills as a ferreting/mooching dog with as good a nose as the terriers and just as willing to bush out. He never really got to grips with ratting though as he was always too busy looking at the hedges for rabbits It was a horrible thing to have to do and a very hard decision to make especially seen as the majority of the time he acted as if he was still a puppy. It's such a shame for a dog of his age to be gone already, there's now a spare dog bed in the house and I'm sure there will be far fewer nose marks on the patio doors. RIP matey you did us all proud but it was for the best. Quote Link to post

Terrier Sam 297
Thanks for the comments guys. It's going to take a bit of getting used to I think even though it's a big relief for all concerned. Real shame to hear of a young dog being taken by this cruel disease,I lost my old bitch at the start of the year to cancer, and I had a run in with the big c myself quite recently,I hope this has'nt put you off acquiring another runner, you sound like the type of person that can provide what a dog needs all the best and keep looking forward mate Thanks LPD, I hope that your all good now. It's a nasty, nasty disease. It hasn't put me off at all mate. I have a 16 month old beddy whip grey who's coming on leaps and bounds and my mate has a 5 month old collie whip grey so we have enough to be keeping ourselves busy for the next season or so but you can never say never. These things happen in life I suppose. At least I can hand-on-heart say that there was no unnecessary suffering. To me that's the biggest tragedy. ATB Sam Quote Link to post
Huan72 687
Truely sorry for you. Deciding to have your dog put to sleep is the most difficult but last and greatest thing you can do for them, relieving their suffering and letting them be at peace. Jip seemed to have a great life and I think that sometimes its not how long youve lived, but HOW you lived and from the photos, he had one hell of a good life No matter how many years roll by, you will have your memories of him, his pictures and you have now immortalsed him on here. My dogs are my best friends and whenever I loose one, it feels like I have been hit by a sledgehammer so I feel for you but try to rest easy, he is at peace now. As you say RIP Jip.
