superdan 0
Could someone tell me the pro's and con's that these rifles have in relation to each other,I'm aware the HMR is incredibly popular and I totally understand why but why isn't the WMR up there with it? Quote Link to post
roe-buck 63
The HMR is alot flatter shooting and faster and more accurate..However, it can be prone to wind interference more so than the .22WMR,also the .22WMR has more energy in 40 gn bullets out to about 100yds.Here is an excellent link for you http://www.chuckhawks.com/compared_17HMR_22WMR.htm Quote Link to post

charlie caller 3,654
.22 wmr all the way mate,30 gn vmax, better in the wind, more energy, nearly as flat out to 120 yds and out further the bigger bullet retains lots more energy than that tiny little .17 pill,oh and of course you can have a semi auto as well Quote Link to post
roe-buck 63
I had a Heckler and Koch sem-auto in .22wmr it was mustard!Had a ten shot and two fifteen round mags for it. Quote Link to post
paulus 26
after owning and selling 2 hmr`s (cz452 and a 1517 thumbhole) ive always fancied a 22 wmr Quote Link to post

Deker 3,478
after owning and selling 2 hmr`s (cz452 and a 1517 thumbhole) ive always fancied a 22 wmr They have a place, as does the HMR etc etc...... I like mine, and as I always say, "it gives me a feeling of confidence", and the 30g V-Mag is excellent for my requirements! ...and some people are getting their wires crossed, the HMR is less effected in the wind than the WMR, and retains its energy better at looooonger range, look it up yourself! roe-buck 63
The 40 gn .22wmr defo has more energy up to and slightly past 100yds.At the BASC open evening I attended alot of the audience reported the same problem i.e that the hmr was getting a round lodged in the barrel and if a second round was subsequently loaded and fired the magazine would blow out or indeed barrels have exploded!A theory as to cause is the powder in the case is being contaminated by water or oil and failing to burn. The primer detonating is enough to force the bullet into the barrel but no further! Then bang!Same scenario as 12/20 bore mix up! rimmer 33
I think you might find that the 22wmr has more energy full stop. At around 150yrds the two bullets come close with under 11ftlb between them but after that the 17hmr falls off quicker than the 22wmr, which is only to be expected with the weight diff between the two bullets, but if you consider the diff the .17hmr proforms very well indeed. That was based on the 40g bullet. how ever i have just looked up the 30g which is very diff, the the 30g has less energy at 100yrds but more after about 200yrds puts the two bullets very close after about 90 yrds. so there is not a lot to choose between them at 100yrds But as for the blockage issue, well that can happen on any rifle and cant really be used in a comparison.
