97 Kt Best Springer Of Them All ?

Recommended Posts

Just my opinion on the matter:

Best looking rifle? NO, the AA Pro Sport has that nailed!

Accuracy once tuned and build quality: HELL YEAH!

It has to be one of the best, THE best is each to their own I reckon!

Out of all the rifles being built today then yes, it's up there with the best of them. It's no better than a modern AA, just different.

I know I'm sticking myself out on a limb here but if I was in the market for another gun I'd be looking at something that was built over ten years ago by either manufacturer. Their quality control was way better back then and I know that if I was careful with my choice then the worst that I'd be looking at was a good service and fettle but that seems to be the case with many new rifles these days. Sadly.....

Sad but true, they're not made like they used to be.

What this man said! However i have never shot the Prosport so cant comment on that! But a tuned HW97 sets a high bench mark.

Yes mate, i agree.

Simple thing: The Springs from Weihrauch are not taht good, you have to change it.

I´ve installed a V-Mach spring, piston seal, and sheet in the piston. Also i did a barrel honing. Shoots really nice groups.

In the future, my baby gets a full TTI Tune kit, with compression chamber and piston, which are both teflon beared.

But you can have a lot of fun with that rifle out of the box.

I know of a certain Lady who had never fired a shot from any type of gun in her life. The first time she ever did was with Davy's .22 HW97KT Synthetic model. With a bit of instruction from Davy and me and a few shots later, she was knocking 2p pieces off a target board top at 35 yards! That is how good a rifle these are for a novice to get into decent shooting with encouraging results. And to be fair, she has a natural aptitude for shooting too. But there was the proof of what a fine rifle the HW97 is for anyone to begin properly training and develloping with.

The best spring rifle of all time, however, is the HW77.

No iffs or buts. Mine is a .22 untuned full size rifle, still has all-original Weihrauch spring and parts and my God, is it accurate!

It was however, fettled, polished and honed by my dear mate Andy here to perfection. This is the original and still the best. The HW97 is just as good. Just not better. I know. I own both!

Just waiting for a certain German supplier to provide Sandwell Field Sports with the new piston heads so they can deliver the tuning kit for my HW97KT I ordered over 2 months ago.... :whistling:

Not Sandwell's fault this!

We've been here before bwfc. The Goldstar was truly a fantastic underlever from BSA. But, it's like the E-Type Jag...For all its looks and performance, it's no longer made and available except to those who find the odd one in the ads and snap them up!.

BSA no longer exists as once it was and the great rifles they produced like this, are no longer built as once before. It cannot count among the currently available crop.

Getting hold of one of these is not easy as they are sought after by those who know. The one in the photo is a real beauty!

You have to look at a thread like this as a discussion on what great rifles a fellow could buy off the shelf, brand new and readily available today.

But I agree with you feelings on the BSA Goldstar. Beautiful rifle. Absolutely right!:thumbs:

Regards.

This thread is quite topical for me. I have just sold a really nice, tuned TX200 and bought the 97kt.

The TX was lovely and post tuning even better, sub 5p groups at 35yards when I'm on form, took many a rabbit. But for me personally there was just something I didn't quite get on with. The 97 is stunning, it fits me better, I find the locktime faster and it will have a PG2 kit in there soon.

Does the shorter locktime make it a better rifle, no, some people prefer the tx shot cycle and shoot it brilliantly.

Does the prosport wth its stunning stock make it better than the TX? In my experience no, I shouldered on once and it felt really odd to me.

Does my experience the 97kt the best springer? No. But best for me. Springers are such personal beasts that have to fit the human behind the trigger to get the most out of them, I guess that's why there is such debate. One that will never be resolved until the individuals pick up a bunch of different springers and decides for themselves.

I liken this to the .177 vs .22 debate, the top guns are all capable

having limited experience of spring rifles i would say the HW97 for me. i had wanted to try a tx200 and Davy kindly leant me one and although it shot fine i just wasnt taken by it.

dont get me wrong stunning to look at and shoulder, But after using a couple of 97kt at the thl meet all be it briefly i just new i wanted one. having only got mine last tuesday i am glad of the decision its cracking in both fit and performance, i prefer the thumbhole stocks seem to suit me more.
