low plains drifter 10,679
Knew a chap back in around 1980-81 that had a 3/4 grey 1/4 lab, dont know which was madder, the owner or the dog.He was always on to my diging mate back then and myself to take him on a dig and that his dog could catch and kill anything that moved so after wrecking our heads for ages we decided we would throw caution to the wind and take him out on a dig.It was a sat morn and we arrived at our destination,me my mate and martin our new friend + his dog {BIG GUY] which he was duly proud of the name he had for him.1st earth we tried held and soon we had a bolt and to our amazment BIG GUY was gone like a flash and had taken and killed his fox in double quick time with martin's head growing by the second. We moved on and tried another couple without success and then again to our surprise Big Guy found and marked an earth we did not know and here we dug 2 more fox, forgot to add there was a good bounty on fox skins at the time and at this stage we had 3 and it was still early in the day.We finished the day on 5 with another taken by Big Guy after a bolt and another accounted for by a hard type terrier we had. From that day on Martin and Big Guy became good members of our little team with Big Guy accounting for a lot of fox day and night and also filling the freezer on more than 1 occasion, both gone now,Big Guy jumping from a bridge on to a railway track in pursuit of a fox and Martin then a few year back lost the plot and took his own life, still great memorys from back then, rip both of them. Thought I was reading one of plummer's yearbooks for a minute there Quote Link to post
