yorkshirenath 2 Posted April 13, 2013 Report Share Posted April 13, 2013 im new to forum and fairly new to ferreting ( never bread them before ) but i decided to go for it as i want to keep a couple of the kits not to make any money i will give the rest away, im really dedicated to my ferrets but i wont lie i havent a clue what to do now shes taken , should i feed her anything or her usual diet , what should i do when there first born, what should i feed them... i just need a little bit of pataince and advice off someone who knows what they are doing i would be really gratefull? cheers guys nathan Quote Link to post
Millet 4,497 Posted April 13, 2013 Report Share Posted April 13, 2013 Just keep feeding her the same if she is on a good diet..she will pop them out 6wk's after mating..you best keep her on her own and best not interfere with them till they are a few day's old..when they are ready for weaning around 3/4 week's just feed them on whatever good meat you are already feeding your jill...it's as easy as that realy.. Where someone is given very good advice without having the ferret police telling everyone how full the rescues are, and how if you have not kept ferrets for 59 years you should not breed them. Rabid 1,936 Posted April 13, 2013 Report Share Posted April 13, 2013 Be very carefull the first few days, if she is a new mother and a bit jittery she could eat the kits, usually after the first litter they are fine, and it also depends how used to you handling her she is, mine I am able to be in the nest during birth and it don't faze them, but I have heard many kits been eaten. As for food, what are you feeding her now ? As has been said, provided she has a good diet then keep it the same, and I always keep mums to be separate, water is critical, it's really common sense more than anything, they are pretty hardy and are more than capable of getting on with it themselves, good luck, nothing beats the feeling of new kitts.
