B.P.R 2,798
Seen a thread on here from a few years ago. Thread was asking 'how many dogs you got' and the answers varied from 1 to 22 dogs! It wasnt clear from the post how these dogs were housed... So im wondering... how many dogs/breeds do you guys keep indoors? And how many, is too many? Myself i have a lab x collie, a whippet and a small lurcher...... It has been contemplated getting a 4th My dogs stay indoors but have the use of a small kennel for an hour or so daytime, when wet etc. Edited April 12, 2013 by Blue Pocket Rocket Quote Link to post
paulus 26
i have a retired old bitch (14) in the house and the 2 woking dogs in the kennels,(11 and 5) i was going to keep a pup out of the litter he sired 6 months ago, but decided ive had enough. if your planning on keeping going then you will need a pup every 4 to 6 years plus you have to be prepared to deal with the geriatrics at some point or else you will end up with a kennel full Quote Link to post
LaraCroft 863
5 at the moment 2 collie x whip x greys, and 3 mainly grey x lurchers (these are elderly and retired) If all 5 being left alone (rare), they are all crated, as the young 2 play and annoy the older ones. More often than not, the younger 2 are with me out and about, the older 3 sleep wherever in the house. Quote Link to post

Chid 6,489
i had 4 in the house at one point , 2 lurchers (one of them was crated one had free run of the house when we was out) one terrier (crated when we was out) and a lab x staff which had free run of the house.. and tbh i found it easy living with the 4 round the house as we had no kids then now we just have the 2 lurchers and there both outside but id like a dog in the house as i miss falling over them 1 Quote Link to post
B.P.R 2,798
Well if im being honest to myself.... getting another would mean 4 in the house...and all my runners within 3 years of each other... The whippets almost 2, lurcher 12 months and then a pup.... I use the whippet for ferreting, lurcher for lamping and my lab x bushes ( to a degree)... i would say they get their work and throughout the summer theyre out a lot....lure coursing etc....they get their exercise. But in no uncertain terms are they anything other than pets first, workers second. I have my dogs to enjoy them and let them enjoy themselves.... But i dont drink, go out etc.....apart from my son and wife, the dogs are my life... 2 in each hand to even it out 4 Quote Link to post
LaraCroft 863
I think age has a bearing - my 3 oldies are 12-14 years now, and don't do much. An hours walk morning and evening, and they can go out into the yard whenever for a pee if needed, and they sleep the rest of the time. I wouldn't want more than 2 that need proper exercise. But the same as BPR, they are pets first, and happen to keep the freezer full second. Mine have to cope with car journeys, trips to London, going out with the horses and waiting in the truck while I am busy - but they are happier doing that than stuck in a shed with nothing to do or see. 3 Quote Link to post

Sirius 1,391
Depends on how big your house is surely? Quote Link to post

I have seen some great kennels/runs on here, and given how posh your man-shed is, I am sure the dogs kennel is actually nicer than my house Quote Link to post
BORDERSCOT 3,816
Depends on how big your house is surely? Mines big -plenty space and 3 acres outside...have to laugh at the "whoa - don't keep working dogs in the house brigde" and they'll be along here soon - I know one guy who thinks all dogs should be outside no questions f**k me u should see his set up...rough and ready is a nice way to describe it... and stinking shithole would be more accurate mines happy and that's what counts... 8 Quote Link to post
