OldTrapCollector 377
Gents Could anyone tell me if you can still get ammunition for a 6mm Garden Gun and if so where from? Does such a shotgun need to be certificated on a SGC as I have read somewhere that it is exempt? Can anyone help? OTC Quote Link to post

walshie 2,804
I know a 9mm needs a SGC, but I thought 6mm garden guns were classed as section 1. Might be wrong though . Quote Link to post

Might be wrong though . think you might be right there think the 6mm garden gun was called no1 garden gun .22 shot shells .. the 9mm was called a no3 garden gun . Quote Link to post
OldTrapCollector 377
I did read somewhere that they were exempt but you cannot believe everything you read can you? So Section 1 means they do not have to be certificated Walshie?? Any idea where I could get .22 shotshells from? Bit of a longshot I know OTC Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
Section 1 means they need to be held on a firearms certificate. Please don't take my word for it though as I'm far from an expert. Quote Link to post
Matt 160
Not sure about the original question, but I used to buy .22 rimfire shot cartridges to shoot rats with the pistol. Try Ladds of Crediton. Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
Just googled them and found 2. One said no licence required as obsolete calibre. (If that's the case, no you can't buy ammo.) The other said section 1 required. I think 6mm, even though it's smoothbore can fire .22 rimfire rounds, so I'd be very careful. Ask your firearms department for clarification. Quote Link to post

If you could buy one as an obsolete calibre then the police decided it was section 1, you could get more trouble than you need. Quote Link to post
OldTrapCollector 377
I might just steer clear of buying it then, I had just never heard of the calibre that's all, I thought it might be a fun project but if it is contraversial I will avoid it Thanks for the replies OTC Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
i would suggest that it all depends on the ammo you intend to use in the gun at that particular time. A 9mm is on the SGC but if a 6mm is to be firing bullets it would be FAC IMO. Quote Link to post

paulus 26
a 22 smoothbore shotgun (6mm) can be held legally on a shotgun certificate and you can still get shells for them, mind there fooking pants Quote Link to post
