ferret15 0
Ok fair enough then. Perhaps you should consider continuing to feed it into adulthood if your pups get such good muscle tone at under 6 months that its worth passers by commenting on it. Must be quite good stuff. obviously I'm not talking macho man ! being as most pups dont fill out until a least a year and a half and it never feed exclusively also before some one else feels the need to judge me i have also stated in the past that i feed more than one brand of dry to puppy's the reason for stating supagrey hound was as it relevant to the topic of 'who feeds red mills 'being as it is designed for greyhounds. gibby 0
Look Im not trying to judge you in any way. Just pointing out the fact that you feed dry food, after your post in reply to mine implied you didnt. Although you have since highlighted that it is only to pups. I hope you dont hold a grudge against me for this Quote Link to post

skycat 6,173
As someone who has only in the last couple of years converted totally to raw (I used to feed both raw and complete though not at the same time) I'm slightly puzzled as to why someone would want to feed puppies a complete food and then go on to raw at 6 months. Surely the first few months of their lives is one of the most important times as far as feeding goes: it is during that time that the foundation for a healthy body is laid down: strong bones and joints, teeth etc. I've not had any problem feeding raw to pups from the nest, in fact all my litters over the last 20 odd years have had their first meal as raw: usually a gutted rabbit, just like with ferrets, and you just carry on in the same vein for ever after. The other day I watched a ten week old lurcher pup demolish a chicken carcase, bones and all: no shits, no upset stomach: just a contented well nourished pup. Quote Link to post
ferret15 0
I'm not going to keep repeating my self i feed a combination of raw and dry to pups and then raw exclusively from six months for the reasons i stated earlier this is my opinion be it right or wrong its what i do and it works for me. Simoman 110
All dogs and ferrets are on 100% raw and have been for the last 7 years or so since I was "converted". Although our cats are on biscuit , I tried chicken but they wouldn't eat it from the bowl and I didn't consider it hygenic finding wings and bits on meat around the kitchen...........I still think dry is terrible, but I prefer the dogs to cats Quote Link to post
jultaylor1972 2
I can honestly say that I have learned a great deal from this post, if I run out of raw food for my ferts in future Im not going to feel bad about it anymore. I will continue to strive to provide it though. My dogs wont touch raw though did try them but they both walked away from their bowls They seem fine on the dry stuff I feed them though. Very good post and responses. Quote Link to post
knocker 0
i have a hob and two jills, i got them off a bloke round the corner who fed them mainly on dry with the odd raw meal, i have managed to get the two jills taking raw with no problems, however, the hob prefers dry and won't eat raw meat, he'll lick it and take it in a corner, then he'll sit and eat dry till he's full ! so i have to put dry and raw in together, vet says all three are very healthy (perhaps a little fat ) so i'm not worrying...the dog, by the way, eats what it wants....dry, raw, fish and chips, eggs, full english etc, it eats anything, runs like a mad thing, weighs 6oz wet through and is the picture of health, so the vet says anyway, happy ferts, happy dog, happy vet......empty wallet Quote Link to post

Guest Bigbob
I normally feed my ferrets rabbit its free and ive usually plenty in the freezer ,but during last summer i tried to change them to dry food to lessen the fly's and it was a total waste of time they just scattered it over the floor of the hutches and wouldn't eat it .This year ive bought in a load of mince and with controlling the amount i feed them there's little waste and not a lot of flys , but what you do get is a load of fly egg's in the feed bowls so i use two sets feeding them at night and taking out the used bowls in the morning and putting them in a pail of water till i wash and use them . This is still with Sterling fly traps each side of my hutches and they do a great job as there nearlyfull and its just the start of august . Quote Link to post

Guest JDF
i can gaz,you were tying to catch us out and make idiots of us seriously though i've fed raw for more years than i can remember though at times i've bought and fed dry(feedwell & red mills) but rarely, used to get most of raw for free though it involved climbing through skips at the back of meat plants, before they started spraying dye on them up until a few years ago used to get goat carcasses for £3 from a man who made lambeg drums Quote Link to post
