Dogs coats go thinner when there shedding there winter coat to the point some look like there balding on there back legs, soon as the new coat comes in it thickens up again.. could it be that?

Get it checked to confirm mange not allergy or something that has gotten onto his legs, then if it is mange, buy some lime and sulphur dip, you have to put some in a bath and wash the dog in it, then leave it to dry.

It is the most foul smelling substance on the planet, it stinks like rotten eggs but it worked really well and really quickly for me when I aquired a puppy that turned out to have sarcoptic mange. By the time it showed she had spread it to 8 dogs, this stuff cleared it up in two weeks

If you are not sure exactly what the dog is suffering from, don't rely on answers on the internet from people who haven't even seen a photo of the dog. A correct diagnosis can only be made by someone who examines the dog in the flesh.

And yes, sulphur dips are very useful. As is sulphur ointment/creme. Pity that Nu Stock isn't easily available in this country: brilliant stuff, even though it does smell a bit  As has already been said, Ivermectin can be dangerous to some dogs with Collie in their breeding. If in doubt, see a vet first!
