I seldom get involved in political discussions on fieldsports boards but I detested that woman so much I have to speak. She was brought in to do a job destroy the miners cripple the unions. She did this using every trick in the book and then some! All my family were involved in the mines and I remember the picket lines where she deployed SAS troopers(YES!) dressed as miners or bogus police to act as "Agent Provocateurs" .Using Special Forces and thugs from the Met,who I personally witnessed beating even the women who supported the strikers!Oh she did the job alright supported her Class, so well done to Arthur Scargill for standing up for his Class! When the lads were taken to court on trumped charges for picketing they even had lies told about them having criminal records when the majority were just hard working Colliers! The thing about mining communities is they have very long memories!!

So let's get this right; Scargill stood up for his 'class' and Mrs Thatcher wanted a miners strike?

Don't be silly.

The fecking unions were destroying this country; their constant walk outs and illegal strikes made us a laughing stock all over the world, and the electorate had had enough. What's a landslide election victory? One where the winning party has a huge majority, in other words the public had had enough and wanted someone strong who would stand up against the Moscow led union officials who didn't want anything except conflict.

Let's just remember that the good old working class Scargill has a £34k p/a flat, for life, paid for by his union. Some working class hero.

I dare say that there were a few 'dirty tricks' on both sides of the miners strike, but let's not forget the crimes committed by miners against their own; murder for one, dropping a concrete block off a bridge onto a passing car.

This country was totally f****d in '79. The unions had been led to believe that they were more important than anything else. We needed someone strong, who was prepared to stand up to them and get us back on our feet. Mrs T did that, and sadly, one of the prices paid was our mining industry.

As I said earlier, Wilson (Labour) closed twice the number of mines that MrsT did, but because Scargill wouldn't back down and decided to fight to the death she gets the blame.

Would it have been better for her to allow the economy to go into complete meltdown by continuing to fund nationalised industries like Mining? I don't think so. Would it have been better if Scargill had brought the miners out (without a legal vote) in the winter and compromised before he destroyed the goose that laid him a golden egg? Of course it would. It didn't happen because the Stalin loving Scargill was having his strings pulled by Moscow.

Like her or loath her, she was never defeated and won three elections. You don't do that by being all bad.

From what I can see, and i remember bin bags piled high in the streets and blackouts, the unions and its members took the piss and got ironed out. Get over it......we lost docking along the Thames lo

So let me get this right......she single handedly closed the mines, closed the shop yards, got rid of the car industry, liberated the banks so they eventually could land us in the economical melt down

say what you like about her she was her own woman and stood by her convictions and something else about her she would never have given in to pressure like blair was and allowed the hunting ban to be p

I remember the bread being rationed, god knows who was striking, anyway, myself and my three brothers went in opposite directions to different shops and joined the lengthy queues to buy the most basic requirement, bread. I suppose in this day and age of fast food shops four to a street and many families on benefits living out of carryout shops this is a situation hard to comprehend.

Open the bloody mines, doubt you'll get anyone to venture down them, labour handing out money to folk sitting on their arse have seen to that.

The family are paying the funeral costs.

Only right that the state pick up the policing costs; they would be there whatever.

Don't see many refusing to attend. The only funeral for a politician attended by the Queen apart from WSC. Don't see many on here moaning about that?

There will be people from all over the world there, get ready for the shame of some scumbags making a nuisance of themselves. The water cannons will be interesting.

From what I can see, and i remember bin bags piled high in the streets and blackouts, the unions and its members took the piss and got ironed out.

Get over it......we lost docking along the Thames long before, to bloody expensive to land cargo......thanks to, yes you've guessed it, the good old union.

If they had really wanted to save the pits, they would have dumped the union, worked twice as long for half the money and made the business work.

Instead it was " all out boys" every two minutes and they reaped the whirlwind.....no one to blame but themselves!

. Wilf the reason the the up river docks closed india etc. was nothing to do Discontent it was pure logistics. Ship were getting out of general cargo and bulk carriers were get bigger the thames could not be dredged up river to costly all so the future barrie plans made them obsolete , we can play table tennis all. Week over the. Reasond be hind the demise of certain in industries. But ill leave you with this. Are remaining coal seam would last for over 400 years. Clean coal burning tech is out there. Yet on the orders of. A goverment in the 80s. Deals were struc. In eastern europe and south amrica to import coal. Mined in south america by. Kids. Mined in eastern europe with the aid of huge subsides provide by. The eu , brand new coal beths were built on docks. To tranport the coal in land. A brand new train company set up. To. Tranport the coal. The jig saw. Slowy came together , A. Mine closer programe did indeed start under wilson Mines that were not vible were closed , yes unions reacted , the closers brought in by mac the knike were for a compleaty differant reason. The eastern european. Links were for future entry to the eu. The use of child labour was and is still sickening. But hey. We have wind farms now. Lol lol lol lol. You carnt see the wood for the trees. Springs tob mind.

The quote im sick of hearing about Thatcher since she croaked from all over the place is "above all she was a true british patriot"...well why the fuk did she divide the nation so venomously to the extent that it can still be felt to this day!!,take this thread for instance!

Fuk her! The working class were guilty of not knowing their place anymore and the cow was hellbent rectifying that....She might have looked after her own but decimated millions of lives and many area's up and down the nation without as much as a second thought....imo she was a vile woman who had agenda's that were to be carried out no matter the cost to people's lives.

"Theres no such thing as society".....says it all really ;)
