chameleon 26 Posted April 12, 2013 Report Share Posted April 12, 2013 You can tell the folk that wernt there at the time, work was everywere, you could walk from one job to the next even if you only wanted a change, and that was the late 70's, folk think that migrants are a new thing, but its old hat, the jobs that people did not want to do in this country late 70's, and said were beneath them were taken by pakistani's, the british said the corner shops were dead and sold them, but that was because they just did not want to do the hours it took to make them work, but the paks did, you get back what you put in, so if you put nothing in, thats all you get back. 3 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

I never studied her policies as they were secondary to what I witnessed in the woman herself. She was an enigmatic leader for sure but one that put her principles above all else even when she knew they were to the detriment of the country; that's why she was ousted by her own party. chameleon 26 Posted April 12, 2013 Report Share Posted April 12, 2013 The problem back in the 70's is folk were doing ok, but wanted more, thats not a bad thing, but there is a ceiling on what any company can give its employees in wages and fringe benifits, if you ask to much, you simply will not get it, investers want their cut, if they dont get it, then the business wont get financed, so that in turn means no jobs, peaks and troughs, all businesses need new customers all the time, if they dont get them, then its the workforce that gets downsized first, so you now have the choice, to strike, or not? if you strike, the business loses more customers and thats detrimental to the businsess, which further compounds its finacial problems, and only ever results in hurting its workforce, and in all probability, your redundant, you make the choice, so pay the price.
