ollywilli 49
Had a days ratting planned today, firstly to the mothering laws, who seems to have rats in with the chickens, I bolted one last week, so came tool up this week and decided to give the ferrets ago at it too as it would be there first time on rats. We got there and unloaded stuff, threw Olivia in with Nanna and then time to move the guinea pigs which live out free in the garden and then let milli out and she was straight to the mark, so a put a few little nets down as only using milli and wanted to see if they would work. Two ferrets were entered and it wasn’t long until we had some bolted, and milli was straight on them, and the tally was going up.One ferret appeared and a rat bolted and got it self stuck between two bricks and for some reason I was going to pull it out by its tail until my brain kicked in and let the ferret have a go, she had a good sniff at it whilst it was worming about and then something must have twigged and she started scratting and bitting at it and then the rat realised it had to move and backed out and gave a good fight before it found the right size gap to the other size and was met buy milli. Again whilst dealing with one ferret milli was moping the rats up on the other side of the shed, leaving the ferrets to do their jobs.On a number of occasions the ferrets popped up and milli didn’t even bat a eye lid. She has worked with them ferreting before but never ratting, so I was pleased. The chickens didn’t look to bothered either. And the wife looked like she was enjoying her self too. Again some more bolted at the same time and we missed two but hit five in total.. Then after something to eat it was onto the brother in laws farm where I lamped previously, and was expecting a good afternoon. SO it was first to the clamp where I used the blower to the bales but nothing!!! Then blower to the banking, two exited but dropped into holes quick, and blowered again were they entered and nothing, so the ferrets where entered and nothing, and getting a bit despondent now so time to move on. Nothing around the bales or rubble pile, until we cam along a pile of “logs” and milli was going bonkers so puller her out and threw two ferrets in and waited and waited and a ferret cam out and just picked her up and moved my hand and a big fat rat just missed my hand and bashed into both feet and I sung as high a jack got her back out again and sent the ferret in, another rat slowely walked under me and milli raced into the wood pile, now two ferrets and milli in here I was expecting the worse, but neither bothered each other, whilst jack was just wanting to be in there, sorry boy you still have to prove to me I can trust you. Mill and two ferrets in there some where!!!But nothing came about what I was but milli moved onto the next wood pile (she may have seen a bolt that I didn’t) and her and jack are trying to dig their way into it with not much success, again a ferret was entered and nothing and then the dogs lost interest?? SO we moved on to the old green house, it was blown and then the dogs were marking and digging so I dug and dug and dug from one end of the green house to the other, in the process finding a well dead rat in a nest, until milli got here self under some sheets of plastic. GoingGoingCan you see her now. Now my mate turned up and the farm hand turned up, probably to have a good laugh as still on 0 here, so we moved the plastic sheets and my goodness she had dug her self well in, an d then I kept digging and digging until I hit three foot and it was going under the milk parlour. It was getting on now and time to pick the daughter back up soon so we had a quick look around and still nothing. All the evidence of rats and not hit a thing and feeling a bit of a fool now. 5 at a house and 0 on a farm, but the amount of rubbish on there is immense and hiding places every where. But this was the EOD shot for me before a few pints. 3 Quote Link to post
