A1WOC 212
Today I bought a new Air Arms S410F Carbine in .22 to complete my air rifle collection and also as a replacement for the Brocock Contour I recently sold. I also bought away a tin of AA Field pellets to get me started. The shop didn’t have the scope I wanted in stock, so I ordered it for collection later in the week. The AA410 is a beautiful looking rifle, nicely balanced and comfortable to shoulder; attributes that attracted me to it in the first place. After fitting a temporary scope, I set about zeroing and generally getting used to handling and shooting the rifle. Once I had zeroed at 25m; and satisfied myself I could hit the knock down targets at various distances in my garden, I put it through the chronograph. The 10 shot string varied between 9.6ftlb and 9.95ftlb; plenty of safety margin at this stage to bed in. The accuracy wasn’t spectacular with a 30mm spread at 40m, however, considering the rifle is new, and I had to discard 30% of the pellets because of visibly damaged skirts that wouldn’t even load into the magazine, I couldn’t have expect any better with my first test session. One niggling reoccurrence I encountered was not drawing the bolt back far enough to engage the hammer, and when the bolt was pushed forward to engage the pellet/probe into the breech it wouldn’t fire; then I had to draw back the bolt, remove the magazine, engage the probe again and fire to avoid a double load. Something I will have to practice at to get a positive load. Made me think why I didn’t buy the 510 with a side lever similar to my HW100. All in all I’m happy with my purchase and can’t wait to get the new Hawke Panorama EV to mount on the rifle so I can put them through their paces. Regards, Steve Quote Link to post
fry 209
a lot dont like the 510 as much as the 410. when i first had mine i did that not pulling the bolt thing fully back. in the end you just get the fell for it. accuracy wise they are spot on were you getting that kind of spread off a rest? i suspect after a 1000 pellets it will be a different story power and accuracy wise. good luck. Its_grim_up_norf 577
I'm after a 410 at the minute. Upgrading from my tx200. Can't fault the tx too much but loading it with any sort of urgency while out lamping is a pain in the backside...and it's not the quietest. I'm in two minds wether to keep it or trade it in/sell it and get a 410. Quote Link to post

jackinbox99 41
Ive got a s410 in .22 ive had for years. Shot dozens of rabbits with it. Ive quite a long garden (50 yards) so what I do is chuck empty beer cans on the lawn at random distances, then practise hitting them in the centre of the base - that soon teaches you how much hold over / under you need. I can hit a 2p sized target, pellet on pellet out to 45 yards easily. Its such a cracking gun. Rebuilt it last year, refinished the stock and fitted a full new seal set. I also fitted a regulator inside it. Havent had chance yet to do a full shot test from a full fill, but initial tests showed it putting out very consistent shot power over 20 pellets on my chrono. Im now looking for one in .177 to complete my collection. Edited April 10, 2013 by jackinbox99 Quote Link to post

I like a PCP for hunting for the reason you mentioned - it's just more versitile than the TX. The TX comes nto its own in a hide or hole in the hedge when after a single bunny though, or when taking a long shot if there is no wind, because there is no real difference shot to shot. Something you can't say about a PCP unless it is regged. Keep the TX, get a 410 as well. Quote Link to post
