VOON 1,317
I think its a good read, good to see lads you know recorded in history. It can't be really an exhaustive piece as terrierwork has only really got going in the last 30 years. Very few lads can remember how their terriers were bred...most lads were more into strong dogs and could rattle of generations of their pedigree's..terriers were picked up of dealers or even borrowed to dig out and most of them were shit and doubled up...In most cases terrierwork didnt get going till Black Dogs and Fells arrived in the late 70's and 80's Maybe Blucks book is the start of the recording of the terriers of Ireland....and he's the first one to write about them so you would have to give him Kudo's for that........... I would have to disagree with you on that one Voon, and I would imagine so would a lot of men that worked white bodied terriers long before the black dogs came into this country.I can remember even though I was very young at the time early 70s there were a lot of bullxrussells about of every % and they were worked hard on all quarry.I got my 1st terrier bullxrussell when I was about 10-11 and he served me well for about 12 years with a hell of a lot of stuff dug with him as myself and my mates did nothing else but hunt every chance we got.I also had a fox terrierxrussell that was a good dog to ground on all quarry and another thing was that we had no locaters them days but dogs were never doubled up as we were thought by the older generation it was not the way to do things. There was also a man lived a couple of mile from us in another parish that would let us tag along on a sunday morn and he kept a strain of red terrier which carried a great resemblance to a red fell and he had these type most of his life and at that stage he was in his 60s so maybe they were around a lot earlier than people think. There is still pockets in Ireland that the black dogs are hardly heard of and the old reliable white bodied terrier is still used with good results, just look at cork for example where they have as many white as black terriers doing the job and doing it well.I still have a bullx here,as good a dog as any other ive dug to and if I could have more of them I would,i also have black stuff here aswell at the end of the day its only a colour.People say that there is a far bigger percentage of black dogs working to white ,but there is also a lot more black stuff been bred with a lot of it wasteage, jmho.
nightjar01 4
I was interested in reading what bryan had to say about a guy whos going to be in the book from Ireland.the guy fits the description, like the guy I hunted with down in cork some years ago,he told me he had terriers from bert gripton, a man who I spent a lot of time with working terriers and hound work.if you know of anybody with berts blood line I would be interested bryan. the_stig 6,614
Wel stig haha not one to cause trouble but look what i come accross today. As the title suggests, I would like to put the record straight in regards to what a particular individual associated with Mr Darcy has posted on THL...I have tried to get on to do the job but my IP is blocked perminatly it seems...Anyway Stig did not or never will be the person that gave me ideas for writing Digging The Dirt or any book now or in the future...contrary to what he has posted. Apparently I stole his idea which to put the record straight is a load of rubbish fellas...remembering that I had already written Breaking Through previous to the DTD series...I think Mr Stig should go back to the Dump where he came from as there is already enough rubbish there to keep him happy, rather than posting it on THL but to be fair theres more rubbish on there than anything else...I like to think my books speak for themselves and the fact that DTD has the biggest thread of any book ever posted on THL does exactly that...The Terriers & Terriermen of Ireland will do the same... as this book will surley go down as the best one that has ever been written on terrierwork. Over 300 pages of pure quality! Tell me that I am wrong when you have read it and I will give you your money back! If someone wants to copy and paste this on THL then please feel free to do so! I hope that this puts the record straight fellas...Bunch of keyboard warriors thats THL A brood of viperous vipers! well i do hope he reads this -------------- you seem to have conveinently forgotten the conversasion we had via pm when you where a member of thl did you also not put a post up asking members for ideas for your next book or future books ? you also chose to ignore 2 messages i sent to your company one via email and the other via ebay when dtd came out ... i`m not really one for childish name calling nor do i find the need to lie think back a bit and be truthfull for yourself ........... i know and you know the conversasion we had and i`m happy with with my version of it you craic on and enjoy what you do i wish you every success with your books but dont deny the truth .....i spoke to a mr broadhurst last year he wondered where you got the idea from ... and to put the record straight i have of nor intend to have anything to do with mr darcy never met the man and dont intend to ... Stig i would not lose any sleep over it or jb for that matter,i reckon he is Plummer reincarnated, as Baz already told him on his own site if your not blown smoke up his arse he does not want to know.. i know what was said otherwise i would`nt have made such a bold statement ----------- i`ve no need to lie ..and i wont be worrying about it thats for sure
