smasher 1,055
White hair turning red, this can and probably most likely is caused by the dog licking the area, the enzymes in siliva and tears too for that matter will turn the white hair red,you will often see it around the eyes and mouth of hairy white dogs like westies and poodles etc.and areas being constantly licked, find out what is causing her to lick that particular area and treat it. skycat 6,173
What? Muzzled ALL the time? Can't be right. Dogs need to groom themselves, lick, nibble etc. Muzzling 24/7 is very cruel. Blocked anal glands can cause irritation and hair loss either side of the root of the tail. Get it to a vet who will show you how to clear the glands if that is the problem. mikeball 108
Have you tried Botanica Cleansing Wash. Just put 3 or 4 cap fulls in a bucket of warm water and wash the area in that. It seems to work well with skin problems. Use once aday untill it's sorted atb Edited April 9, 2013 by mikeball
Bootsha 1,306
try hibiscrub mate, but if its red or inflamed, you may want to see whats causing the problem first, like mites or something, if a skin scrape is negative, then a solution of hibiscrub will greatly assist the healing process, or a benzyl benzoate solution, which will kill any mechanical dandruff that may be causing the irritation in the first place.

Sammy Labhound 1
Just wondering if you found the cause/sorted the problem? I know impacted anal sacks (they're not glands, but even knowing that I still end up saying glands!) Can cause problems near the actual bum, seen pictures if abscesses caused by impacted sacks around rhe top of the legs near the anus. My Sam's backside ends up bright red from his constant licking if they are getting problems and when I found out how much it would cost to have his bright red ass diagnosed and treated when I had already wormed and deflead him I decided to do it and it cleared in hours, for the price of three gloves and some kitchen towel, so may be worth giving it ago if the cause hasn't been found yet =) is not a pleasant job but after watching a video on YouTube if you've never done it you realise how surprisingly easy it is, and if like my boy it happens regularly because he gets the runs over any tiny dietary change you get very good at it!! moonlighter 1,164
My old bull/grey bitch had this. Never did cure it. Some dogs just don't grow hair on the insides of the back legs very well.
