Millet 4,497 Posted April 8, 2013 Report Share Posted April 8, 2013 I'm working away lambing at the moment so i have not put my nest pan's in yet..but i nipped home yesterday for a quick look on the aviary and one of the greenies has made it's own nest and popped 4 egg's out..it was a fortnight when i last seen them so i have no idea when they will hatch.. ...if they do hatch before i get back is they anything to use as a guide to how old the chick's will be as i realy don't want to miss putting ring's on them if i can help it...and what other additional food should i be putting in there with the broccoli and egg food.. fireman 10,917 Posted April 9, 2013 Report Share Posted April 9, 2013 If there eye's are open you have once chance of getting a ring on and that's no fecking chance ,far to late by then.You could candle the eggs Millet and the fuller the egg the closer to hatching it will be but apart from that there's not a lot you can do but check and see if you can get rings on the chicks when you get the chance.Just keep a breeding diary as best you can just in case you miss ringing any and all it means is you cannot sell them,it's not illigal to have unrung birds as long as YOU CAN PROVE there captive bred mate. As for extra food chickweed by the bucket full will help but if your worried about catching the chicks in time for ringing then don't give them mealworms as the chicks grow very fast when fed on them,my redpolls i had to do at 2-3 days old when fed on mealworms by the parents instead of the usual 4-5 days,good luck with the eggs being full and chicks in the nest soon . 3 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
