Should I Isolate Pregnant Jill?

Recommended Posts

I've got a Jill here that I took in last week. I think she is pregnant. I've got an entire hob who's in a separate hutch because he just kept trying to mate with her.

I'm getting a working Jill on Wednesday and wanted to put her in the 6' x 6' ferret court with my other Jill. Would you advise this or keep them apart? Might she kill the kits if my other Jill is pregnant? Or should they be ok?

Thanks. Gaz.

If you have the means to separate them mate I would. If they had already been living together for a while then I would have said dont worry about it and keep them together but your introducing a 2nd jill at time when the pregnant one is likely to be a tad protective anyway..

That was what I was thinking mate. Thanks.

The hob is in a double tier hutch so I can separate that into 2 and put the new Jill in there for now.

When would you introduce the new Jill to Jill and kits? (I will be keeping 2 Jill's back). When they are 3 weeks old or more?

I am not sure tbh. If it was me I would wait till they are about 8 weeks as some jills can be fairly protective of them for the first few weeks and even ones that dont usually bite you will take chunks out of you if you go near the kits too soon. I am assuming that it would be the same with other strange ferrets... but again am not sure that would just be my take on it

best to keep two jills apart one jill could kill the other
