Hares And Shooting Are Making The News Again

Recommended Posts

Although I'm against giving those lot a say in anything, I do agree with a closed season for hares. March 14th to September 1st would be my closed season.

Same old story though, blame hunting for the population decline.............

any fat overweight man can shoot a hare driven towards him with a twelve bore any man with a little training can set a up high powerd scoped rifle and shoot a hare at a hundred yds ,but to breed a good hare dog takes patience training feeding breeding .you cant buy a good hare dog off the shelf .it is something you mould from 8weeks of age to maturity .something that takes a long time to come to hand.thaht has a far greater sense of achievemeant than blasting a hare with a firearm.with a twelve bore or high powerd rifle the odds of escape are very low the outcome is more or less assured .seeing a dog course a hare is natural and primeval.it is one of the few things left in the world you just canott buy

The shooting of hares seems the most unnatural form of fieldsport to me,infact there is no sporting chance involved, the speed, stamina, agility and knowledge of the land are the hare's defences,to see hares driven to a line of waiting guns, and then pumped full of lead shot is no more than slaughter, and when I hear of hundreds of hares being shot in a single day, when so much of todays farmland does'nt hold a single hare, never mind a population,it has to make you wonder

NO NOT ONE BIT, really it was the do gooders getting at the Landid Gentry, i WAS WALKING THROUGH A BIT HARD WOOD that has been thinned down, so easy walking, I come across two BADGERS, broad daylight, this was about 3.30 pm, they looked like last years young ones, but I had walked that woodland a couple days before and there was No signs of any badgers setts, Lucky I had the dog on the lead, they never tried to run away from me, and I was walking over crispy frozen leaves, a lot of noise but they never stirred, I believe they had been Released to find a new home, ((( the only thing there is a couple of very Large dairy farms surrounding that woodland, ((( I dont think the ole farmers would be to pleased to know that some do gooders had released Badgers around thier property,

Totaly agree blackgreyhound. I am sure that we have all seen the cowboy type.......pay to shoot a gun with no experience or respect for the quarry at all, trigger happy and just wants to blast away to brag later. How many hares, for those killed, get away injured only to become fox food? I am not anti shooting at all, I have two guns and I love them, its not the gun its the person. Its all about respecting the quarry and without that respect, you are a cowboy.......sorry if that offends but thats how I feel. For the future of hunting respect is paramount and those without it have no place in the hunting game

Some of what you say is good, some is the usual shite. I can go out tomorrow and buy a dog that can catch hares so your point is invalid. There's reasons hares are shot. Wrong that your sport has been taken from you but no point moaning about someone else's!!

Lab tastic likes a shot at a hare lol

I don't. There's very little about here and I have no need to shoot them. Love to see a dog on them.
